Biggest Spike in Autumn Affairs in Eighteen Years as Kids are back in School

The key findings

*The biggest autumn affairs spike in 18 years now that kids are back in school

* Bored housewives account for 59% of the registration surge

* More than half of adulterers have been faithful over the summer, though 70% of them suffered a total summer sex drought

* Study conducted by IllicitEncounters.com the UK’s leading dating site for married people

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people has seen an exponential growth in married people seeking affairs during the last three weeks as bored husbands and wives look to engage in illicit activity now that kids are back in school.

The autumn affairs spike is observed each year that kids go back to school, however 2021 accounts for the biggest rise in September registrations since records began 18 years ago, with a 44% increase in the first three weeks of September.

Bored housewives account for 59% of the registration surge – suggesting that more of the child care burden belongs to mothers – who after a summer of sacrifices are finally able to use September as an opportunity to unwind with an illicit lover. It seems that once the kids are back in school, mums go back to bed with other people’s husbands.

The extra-marital dating site surveyed 600 recently active members and found that more than half of married couples (54%) had been faithful over the summer, but not from lack of trying as a phenomenal 84% of those who didn’t cheat said they wanted to have an affair but found it impossible to engage in one during the summer holidays.

Out of the 46% of members that were loyal during the school holidays, a whopping 70% said they hadn’t even had sex with their spouse – this summer sex draught is notorious for sowing the seed of the autumn affairs rise.

Henrietta, 55, London

‘I could walk through the house naked and my husband wouldn’t even notice. I’ve accepted that our relationship is no longer physical and that’s okay. Otherwise he is a great partner and father to our kids and we really like to focus our attention on the family during the school holidays. We were actually lucky enough to go to Greece this year. We’ve had a nice summer. Now the kids are back in school and I’m looking my best with a tan – I am ready to pounce haha on some new fling for this quarter.”

Sylvia, 40, Suffolk

I save most of my annual leave for the school holidays as me and my husband both work and need to make sure that childcare is covered. I love spending time with the kids but the summer really steals away any real adult time left. My husband is constantly stressed and complaining. It’s nice to just forget about it all with someone who can relate. I don’t intend to ever leave my family, I just need a bit of a release.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com, said “We’re seeing a phenomenal spike in autumn affairs now the kids are back in school. It can also be assumed that the surge is higher than normal due to covid and lockdown fever – people need an escape, they need a release from the mayhem of the last 18 months.

Having said that, autumn is always cesspit for infidelity. Schools reopening allow parents much more freedom. I’m not surprised adulterers have been faithful during the summer – there’s been little to no chance to get away. Now daddy can drop off the kids to daycare and engage in a dalliance of his own.

Look – we all know summer is adventure time for our children – but autumn is when stressed out spouses are finally allowed to go out and play.”

You know what they say about men with big feet? They’re more likely to cheat!

The key findings

* Men with big feet are more likely to cheat

* Shoe size 10-10.5 is the size most likely to be unfaithful

* Men with shoe size 7.5 and under are the most faithful in Britain

* The findings come from IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people

It was once rumoured that the size of a man’s feet meant they had big… socks!

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people, surveyed 2000 of their male members and found a direct correlation between a man’s shoe size and adultery.

A man who is well endowed has big feet – or so they say. Now the proof for that particular myth is in the pudding, what is certainly true though is that men with big feet are more likely to cheat, whereas men with teeny tiny tootsies are tons more trustworthy.

The results found that only 4% of cheating men have a shoe size of 7.5 and under, followed by 8% shoe size 8 – 8.5 and 22% of men with shoe size 9 – 9.5.

Now on the larger scale, over a quarter of adulterous men have shoe size 10 – 10.5 (27%) – making this the most common shoe size of a cheating casanova!

18% of cheating men have a shoe size of 11-11.5, followed by 15% between 12 – 12.5, lastly 6% have a shoe size of 13 and over.

Collectively 66% of male love rats have a shoe size 10 or over, with 10-10.5 being the most popular sizes for adulterous men.

The results of the study also correlate with various celebrity cheats, Tiger Woods, Hugh Grant, Lamar Odom and Arnold Schwarzenegger all sporting a shoe size of 10 and over.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com, Jessica Leoni, said ‘Whilst some may argue that there is more to an affair than a man’s shoe size, the data doesn’t lie. 66% of male love rats have a shoe size of 10 or over.

Why do men with big feet cheat? Perhaps because men with bigger feet tend to also be tall – so they’re likely to get more attention than their shorter counterparts. Big shoes equals big everywhere right? Women fancy Mr.Big – doesn’t mean they should marry him though!

Well now you know – shoe size really does matter when looking for a faithful partner.’

2 out of 3 adulterers have a happy marriage – but cheat anyway

The key findings

* 2 out of 3 adulterers have a happy marriage
* British loverats claim  ‘An affair improved my marriage’
* A cheating husband or wife would be heartbroken if their spouse was also unfaithful – and would be unlikely to forgive them
*Results from a survey of 800 adulterers from the UK’s leading married dating site IllicitEncounters.com

Unhappy people cheat – wrong! Infidelity strikes in happy marriages.

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people, surveyed 800 people currently having an affair to discover what led them to cheat in the first place and the results will shock you.

Turns out that a marriage does not have to be a trainwreck for cheating to be prevalent as 67% of men and women admit they are actually happy in their marriages.

77% of the respondents claim an affair has even improved their marriage.

79% of those polled said they would never consider leaving their partner even if they met somebody they really liked.

94% of people currently cheating on their spouse would feel heartbroken if they discovered their husband or wife was also cheating on them, and a whopping 82% said they could not forgive the transgression.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com, said ‘I’m not entirely shocked that happy people cheat, if you’re unhappy your mind is elsewhere – there’s no way you could compartmentalise an affair. People in unhappy marriages usually lack confidence, they can be stressed and depressed – not really first date material.

Often our members come from happy homes where the spark may have gone out – they still get on with their husbands or wives and enjoy their marital lives. Adulterers don’t want to leave their partners, they just want some extra spice and adventure in their lives.’

Members of IllicitEncounters.com speak out below:

Natalie, 40, Sussex

‘My husband and I have built the perfect life together. I adore my husband. He is good-looking, successful, a great father – and totally devoted to our family. Jack’s the polar opposite, he keeps me on my toes. He’s flirty, cheeky and kinky. At home I have love, safety and stability. With Jack I have lust, adventure and spontaneity. I think it’s natural for us to be curious and crave variety. Jack is my lover, nothing more, he is not husband material. I wouldn’t trade my husband for the world.’

Jamie, 55, Manchester

‘Me and my wife get on really well, we have a strong connection and lots in common, the same morals and values – well, besides my affair, which if she found out would destroy her. I have had a number of affairs over the years because our sex life is non existent. We still sleep in the same bed, kiss, cuddle. It’s rare it goes any further than that. I’m fit and healthy and I’m not ready to give up on sex.’

Don’t get mad, get even – how a third of women cheat in revenge after their partner strayed previously, according to a new survey

The key findings

* A quarter of men ‘revenge cheat’ after discovering their lover has been unfaithful;

* The vast majority of revenge cheaters (82%) feel justified in having an affair to ‘get their own back’ on lover’s betrayal;

* Big rise in revenge cheating since the end of lockdown as new freedoms spark a surge in affairs;

* Results are from a new survey of 2,000 people by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading affairs site

A third of women cheat in revenge after their partners previously strayed, according to a new survey

Slightly fewer men (26%) also ‘revenge cheat’ to get their own back from an earlier betrayal.

The vast majority of revenge cheaters (72%) said they felt justified in having an affair because their partner erred first.

More men (54%) than women (48%) are likely to own up to a revenge affair to show their partner the error of their ways.

The most common way that people revenge cheat is through meeting a new partner on a dating website or app, chosen by 42% of respondents, followed sleeping with a former lover or friend (28%), contact through social media (12%), a work romance (10%) and a pick-up at a bar or club (8%).

There has been a 12% rise in revenge cheating since the end of lockdown as the new freedoms sparking a surge in affairs. The results are revealed in a new survey of 2,000 people by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading affairs site.

Being caught did not stop 44% of cheats from carrying on seeing a lover, despite telling their partner the affair was over.

The survey found that less than a quarter of people (23%) end their relationship after discovering an affair.

Far more (30%) stay with their partner and then get their revenge by having an affair of their own.

The survey found that a third of couples (32%) used lockdown to make a fresh start while stuck at home together for 18 months.

That involved confessing to a past fling for 13% of women and 10% of men.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

IllicitiEncounters.com sex and relationship expert Jessica Leoni said: “Revenge cheating has never been more popular.

“More people are taking the view: don’t get mad, get even, and concluding that the best way to get over an affair is not by being a doormat and accepting it but by getting out there and avenging it.

“The last two months have seen a surge in revenge cheating as people who have discovered past betrayals during lockdown and used the new freedoms to get their own back.”

IllicitEncounters has enjoyed its busiest month for new registrations in a decade as unhappy spouses use the end of lockdown to have some fun.

Another factor in the surge has been Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s affair, with men in particular encouraged by him cheating on his wife to seek a new relationship.

Every day around 30,000 people are having an affair on IllicitEncounters and more than a million people have registered with the site since it was launched 18 years ago.

Top 5 ways people revenge cheat

1 Seeking new partner on a dating site or app

2 With a former lover or friend

3 Connecting with a new partner through social media

4 Work romance

5 Pick-up in pub or club

“Sex with the ex was even better the second time round:” rampant bar manager Chloe bedded the boy she lost her virginity to 15 years later

* The randy pair were reunited after meeting on IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading affairs site

A rampant bar manager has told how she bedded the boy she lost her virginity to 15 years later – after they were reunited on a cheating site.

Chloe, 30, from Stevenage, Herts, was keen to have an affair after the sex in her long-term relationship went stale after the birth of her two sons.

And she was stunned when she went looking for a ‘bit on the side’ on IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading affairs site, to discover her first love Paul, 31, was also trying to cheat at the same time.

Chloe said: “I messaged him immediately and said: ‘Fancy seeing you here! What a small world.’

“He got back to me in minutes and within an hour we were arranging to meet up at a hotel for sex.

“We were both curious to see how we had each changed and whether the sex would be as good the second time around.

“Well, I can confirm that it was even better – we had both learned a few new tricks since we were at school!

“It was great seeing Paul again after all these years and we slept together a few more times after that first encounter but we split up the first time for a good reason and we knew we didn’t want to leave our partners for each other.

“Having an affair was much more fun and had no consequences for our partners and our children.”

Chloe had settled down with security manager Ian, 34, the man she dated after splitting with Paul.

She said: “Paul was my first love and we fell in love at school and were both virgins when we first made love.

“After that, we were rampant for the next two years and I had the best sex of my life with him.

“We split up after leaving school when Paul went to university and I pursued a new career working in pubs and clubs.

“Paul moved abroad and I thought I would never see him again.

“I met Ian and decided to have a family.”

Everything was fine with Ian for ten years before things got boring after they started a family.

Chloe said: “The relationship became a bit of a slog and we both stopped making the effort.

“Ian put on weight and I stopped fancying him. I didn’t want to split up the family but I did want the excitement of a new relationship.

“I went on IllicitEncounters the first time a couple of years ago and ended up having a year long affair with an insurance manager.

“He was stuck in a sexless marriage, too, and we had a lot of fun.

“I took a bit of break when we split up and Covid happened and then went back on the site to discover Paul was back in the UK and looking to cheat.

“Since we split up the second time, I have been seeing another man who works in IT. It suits me to have affairs and not get heavy with anyone.”

Brits Vote on the World’s Sexiest Foreign Accents

The key findings

* Britain votes French the sexiest female foreign accent in the world for women and Italian for men

* 5 out of 6 Brits think an accent makes someone more (or less!) attractive

* More than half of us have broken up with someone we fancied just because we didn’t like their accent

* The results come as part of a survey of 1200 people on lllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people.

You’ve probably heard of love at first sight, but what about love at first sound? Turns out a person’s voice can be a massive turn on as Brits find some accents more attractive than others.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people, polled 1200 men and women to discover Britain’s favourite foreign accents. Sex and relationships expert for the website, Jessica Leoni has compiled and commented on the results below:

83% of the respondents agreed that a person’s accent can make them more or less attractive.

The saying ‘you were so attractive until you opened your mouth’ – rings true when it comes to accents. As a whopping 53% of men and women have actually broken up with someone they fancied because they did not like their accent.

40% of people have consciously toned down their accent when dating.

In first place for sexiest female foreign accents, as voted by men, is the ‘language of love’ French with 26% of the vote – très bien. Everything about the French exudes romance – the dialect has that mysterious je ne se quois that leave men falling into hopeless devotion. Take famous actress Léa Seydoux for example – set to return to the screens as Madeleine Swann a love interest of Mr. Bond, James Bond – Léa Seydoux french accent is absolutely mesmerising.

Spanish comes in close second sexiest female foreign accent (23%), such as the award-winning Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, and actress Úrsula Corberó best known for her role in Money Heist as Tokyo.

Third place goes to Poland (13%), with Polish being the highest non-British population residing in the UK it comes as no surprise they would fare well.

Fourth place goes to Italian with 11%, fifth place is Dutch (8%) and sixth place is German (6%).

Second to last is Swedish in seventh place (4%)  and Irish eighth and last place (2%).

In the men’s category, Italy scores yet again following their euro victory, British women found Italian to be the number one most desirable accent on a man with 24% of the vote. There is a plethora of famous Italian men, from designer Giorgio Armani, to footballers Andrea Pirlo or Gianluigi Donnarumma – the list goes on, even Italian names sound sexy on the tongue.

Second sexiest male accent is Spanish (20%). Famous Spanish men include actors Miguel Silvestre, famed for his portrayal of villain Franklin Jurado in Narcos, or Alvaro Morte, El Professor, in Money Heist.

Irish comes in third place for sexiest male accents (12%) – such as the likes of actors Liam Neelson, Cillian Murphy and Colin Farrel.

Fourth place sexiest male accent is Canadian (11%), followed by South African in fifth overall place (9%).

French is dethroned as the language of love for men coming in 6th place (7%). Famous male French celebrities include actor Vincent Cassel or footballer Kylian Mbappé.

Seventh place goes to Greek (6%), second to last is Portuguese in seventh place (5%)  and lastly Australian in eighth overall sexiest male accents (2%).

You’re Caught! Top 10 Apps that Bust Affairs

The key findings

* Wives catch husbands cheating on Whatsapp more than any other app
* Apple users are in second place – being busted via iMessage
* Third and fourth most popular apps to catch a male loverat are Facebook and Instagram
* Less cheats are caught via Skype than any other app – making Skype the safest for sneaky liaisons!
* Survey conducted by IllicitEncounters.com the UK’s largest extramarital dating site

Has your husband got a phone addiction or are they being unfaithful?

IllicitEncounters.com surveyed 600 of its female members who have previously caught their husbands cheating on apps.

Turns out you’re most likely to get caught cheating via Whatsapp (20%), followed by iMessage (17%) and Facebook (15%).

The safest app for sneaky liaisons is Skype as only 0.5% of affairs have been busted via Skype!

Whatsapp

Whatsapp may seem like a good place to have illicit chats – keeping conversations segregated from your normal mobile text messages, however a whopping 20% of women have caught their partner cheating this way. If you don’t securely password protect your phone or switch off notifications and hide your apps – a quick Whatsapp stalk and any naughty messages can easily be discovered.

iMessage

Apple users beware – the second biggest app to bust affairs is the iPhone’s iMessage app – which is often linked to multiple devices such as iPads, MacBooks or even an Apple tv. Apple fans need to take note of where their messages are going to – and how easily these can be accessed. 17% of women have caught their partners cheating via iMessage.

Facebook

Facebook is a minefield for infidelity, with 15% of women catching their husbands out via Facebook. Leaving your Facebook logged in and unattended can be a grave mistake around suspicious partners. Disclaimer – login details automatically save onto the Facebook messenger app – so unless you delete your messenger account from a suspecting partner’s handset – they can easily switch between their own account and yours.

This type of infidelity is opportunistic and convenient – and more often than not is with somebody you already know. 64% of women who caught their partners cheating on Facebook admitted to personally knowing their husband’s lover.

Instagram

Adultery on instagram is ripe, with 12.5% getting caught this way. Not only is it easy to spot when your partner has been liking other women’s pictures, it has an inbuilt chat interface that can get you in trouble.

Gmail

Adulterers might think they’re being discreet when pinging emails back and forth with their lovers – but unless their notifications are switched off a wife might spot a sexy message over her husband’s shoulder if she’s in the right place at the right time. A whopping 10% of love affairs have been busted by popular email app Gmail!

Tinder

Tinder is the obvious app to catch a cheat, with 7.5% of affairs being busted by Tinder – having this app on your phone when you’re in a committed relationship is a cause for concern. Perhaps a smaller number of people get caught this way because they hide the app well in secret folders and have good password security on their phones.

Snapchat

Messages on snapchat may seem discrete, one minute they are there, next minute they are gone! Snapchat allows users to send pictures or videos which once viewed will self-destruct and disappear off your phone forever – that is, unless you screen grab them. Some husbands just can’t help themselves, and several wives have found shots of ladies on their phones from snapchat.

Snapchat also has a snap maps feature that can track your partners location, another sure fire way to catch them cheating. You can even check who your partner has been snapchatting with the most with friends’ emojis – if it’s regularly with an unfamiliar lady this is sure to set off alarm bells. 5.5% of affairs have been busted by snapchat.

Kik

Kik is the favourite app for adultery, a previous study on IllicitEncounters.com confirmed that over half of users (57%) have downloaded Kik to chat to their lovers. Surprisingly only 4% of men have been caught cheating on Kik by their wives.

Find my friends

Find my friends is a tracking app – used to easily locate your friends or family. A favourite for parents wanting to keep tabs on their teenage kids, it’s also one of the top apps for finding cheating husbands. 2% of men have actually been caught in the act this way.

Skype

A very small number of philanderers have had their love affairs exposed via Skype (0.5%). A popular video and chat app – Skype also allows you to disguise your phone number by giving you the option of changing the digits – meaning calls to an illicit lover are also harder to track down.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

IllicitEncounters.com sex and relationships expert Jessica Leoni said “Every Tom, Dick or Harry is on Whatsapp – just because it isn’t your mobile devices inbuilt messaging app does not mean it’s top secret Sherlock!

Apple users need also to be extra careful when chatting to their mistress via iMessage – messages can show up on multiple devices – which really puts you in the danger zone.

The killer reason men are getting caught out cheating is due to notifications being switched on. Just switch them off lads! Be more discreet, password protect or hide apps and use aliases for your lovers instead of their real names.

If you want to have an affair it’s also best to just keep it off social media – friending your lover online is a sure fire way to getting caught.”

July is the top cheating month of the year followed by June. Other peaks are in September and January as loverats return to their illicit activities after holidays with their families.

Cassandra, 32, Margate ‘We’ve been locked in our homes for far too long and it’s been tough coming up with excuses to have an affair. I’ve had more fun in the last fortnight dating married men than I have all year. Are people more aroused in the summer? I think so, yes. People seek out romance in the summer whether they’re single or married.’

James, 50, Manchester ‘The woman I’m seeing, aside from my wife, I met in January this year. We were suffocated at home over the winter with all the restrictions and it’s been nothing but relief since we met. Our affair is just for us and we’re good at disassociating it from ‘real life’. We’ve decided to have a break over the school holidays though to focus on our partners and kids. We’re meeting up one last time for lunch this Friday and I’m really looking forward to it.’

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com said ‘Let’s face it, everybody gets the holiday horn. Not only are people much more cheerful when the sun’s out, they’re sun kissed and show off a bit more skin – it’s the ideal time for romance. It’s been a crazy busy July for affairs as expected – even more so with less restrictions and freedom day giving people the confidence to date again. Everybody just wants to have a bit of fun and those in unhappy marriages are no different.

We all want to feel valued and admired – so why shouldn’t adulterers get their last kicks this Friday before sacrificing the rest of the summer to their families. At least their priorities are straight.’

The Itty Bitty Cheating Titty Committee – Women with Smaller Breasts Cheat!

The key findings

* More than half of women who cheat have a cup size between AA and C
* B Cup is the most common bust size of a cheat – with 32B the most popular of the B’s
* Adulterous women buy sexy lingerie for their lovers not their husbands
* Female loverats vote Marks & Spencer top choice shop for illicit lingerie
* Results from a survey of 800 affair seeking ladies from leading married dating site IllicitEncounters.com

Know your ABC’s when it comes to cup sizes? It may help you spot a loverat!

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people, surveyed 800 of its female members to discover a few eye-opening facts about cheating and the size of a woman’s bosom.

The results found that over half (52%) of female loverats have bra size between AA and C cups – making women with smaller breasts more likely to cheat compared to their faithful counterparts or rather bigger busted ladies.

The number one cup size of an adulterer is a B cup with a whopping 27% of women claiming to be a size B – with 32B being the most popular.

Famous celebrities with cup size 32B who have had affairs include Kristen Stewart (32B) and Sienna Miller (32B). Other famous celebrity cheats with a smaller bust size include Meg Ryan (34A) and Amanda Holden (32C).

Husbands beware if your wife buys sexy underwear! The results also found that out of the 800 women surveyed only 11% buy sexy lingerie to wear for their husbands however an enormous 73% have bought lingerie to impress their affair-partner.

Marks and Spencer has been voted the number one place British cheats buy sexy underwear (37%) followed by Ann Summers (23%) and Victoria’s Secret (18%).

Yasmin, 40, London, a member using IllicitEncounters.com said ‘Since starting an affair 6 months ago I’ve lost a ton of weight and I’ve never felt sexier. I regularly buy lingerie when I’m doing a food shop in Marks and Spencers and love to get dressed up for some steamy sessions with my lover. My husband doesn’t realise the purchases are for underwear on our joint account as it just shows up as Marks and Spencers – I just tell him I had to restock on detergent or wine.’

Another member, Georgina, 55, Liverpool, said ‘My lover has always said I have incredible breasts, more than a handful is a waste he says. I’ve been on diets all my life to remain petite. Small and slender was really popular in the 90s and that’s the kind of look I go for.’

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com, said ‘32B or not a B? That is the question! Turns out a small bust size can get you busted, whereas knockers won’t get you nicked!

Of course affair-seekers aren’t getting sexy for their husbands – it’s their husbands who have made them lose confidence over time by taking them for granted. Women all over are reclaiming their sexual prowess by getting dressed up for their lovers.

Why do cheats shop for lingerie at Marks and Sparks? It’s pretty obvious isn’t it? A woman juggling a household and a lover simply doesn’t have the time to shop around. Kill two birds with one stone by doing food and lingerie shopping at the same time. It’s also a great way to not raise any questions from suspecting husbands!’

Does he like Belgium Beer? He’s cheating on you!

The key findings

* Belgium Beer is beloved by men who betray their wives – with Stella Artois voted the number one choice for cheats!

* Men who are faithful drink Fosters, Budweiser, Corona and Guinness – to name a few

* Brits who booze on Irish brews are the most loyal – Love-rats dislike bevvies from Ireland more than any other country

* Study conducted by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people

Beware of the man that orders a Belgian beer – he may be cheating on you!

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

In celebration of National Beer Day, Tuesday 15th of June, IllicitEncounters.com the UK’s leading dating website for married people, surveyed 1000 men to discover the top beverage of affair-seekers out of beers, ciders and stouts and ales. Sex and relationships expert for IllicitEncounters.com, Jessica Leoni has compiled and commented on the results below:

Affair-seekers are in favour of Belgium beer over any other beer, cider, stout or ale – with Stella Artois coming out on top as the beverage of choice for cheating Brits! Irish bevvys on the other hand are the least popular – with Guiness making a shocking appearance in the top 10 least favoured drink of adulterers.

Stella Artois, a Belgium beer, comes out on top as the number one drink enjoyed by loverats with 18% of the vote. With their original slogan reading “Stella’s for the fella’s that take their lager strong” – and apparently also for spouses that stray!

Second and third place goes to lagers from the Netherlands, Heineken (16%) and Amstel (15%).

If Carlsberg did affairs… they probably wouldn’t be the best in the world, but they’d not do too badly either, this Danish beer comes in fourth place gaining 12% of the vote.

Fifth place goes to Peroni, a beer from Italy (9%), followed by the French beer Kronenbourg (7%) in sixth place and German beer Becks in seventh (5%).

Hoegarden, another Belgium beer, comes in eighth place (4%), followed by English cider Thatchers in ninth (2%).

Tenth most popular bevvy for adulterers is the pale ale Leffe (1%) and the third Belgian beer in the list – making Belgium beer the most notorious drink choice of cheating men.

Date yourself a man that drinks Australian beer Fosters – as Fosters is voted the number one least popular drink for affair seekers with 23% of the vote. Making those that drink Fosters the most faithful!

Second and third least enjoyed beer of adulterers belongs to America –  Budweiser beer (17%), followed by IPA Sierra Nevada (13%).

Fourth place goes to Mexican lager Corona (11%).

Fifth is Irish cider Magners (8%) and sixth is Irish stout Guinness (6%).

Seventh least favourite drink of adulterers, and thus enjoyed by more faithful men, is Netherlands lager Grolsch (5%) – the only country that has a drink voted into the top 10 best and the top 10 worst list.

Eighth place goes to Scottish Brewdog beer (4%), followed by Spanish lager Estrella in ninth (3%).

Tenth least liked drink by loverats belongs to Irish stout Murphy’s Irish Stout (1%) the third Irish bevvy in the top 10 most disliked drinks by cheats – making Brits who booze on Irish brews the most loyal.

The Ultimate Breakup Soundtrack – Sad Songs Alleviate Suffering

The key findings

* 64% of people agree that they listen to music more often after a breakup
* 73% of people said that listening to a heartfelt song helped them achieve a sense of relief after a relationship breakdown
* ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ – Sinead O’Connor voted the number one breakup song of all time
* The 90’s provided us with the most iconic breakup songs of all time, followed by the 70’s and noughties in joint place
* Results are from a new survey of 1200 people by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading affairs site

llicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people, polled 1200 men and women, split equally, to uncover the ultimate breakup playlist.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com, Jessica Leoni has compiled and commented on the results below:

Ever had your heart broken? It can feel so devastating it’s often difficult to know what to do to make yourself feel better. Turns out prescribing a course of medicinal music could be just the remedy for a spell of lovesickness.

64% of the respondents polled agree that they listen to music more often after a break up compared to the average day. A further 73% agreed that listening to a heartfelt song helped them achieve a sense of relief after a relationship breakdown. Seeking out depressing music when you’re sad actually has a paradoxical effect by making us feel better.

A separate study*, that supports this idea, of 772 participants by researchers at Freie Universität Berlin found that your brain experiences cognitive rewards when exposed to sad music as we connect and identify with the songs.

It’s not unheard of to channel suffering into art and arguably some of the most beautiful creations have been inspired from a place of pain – and music is no different. On that note, here are the results of the poll, giving you the top 15 breakup songs of all time.

Sinéad O’Connor, Irish singer-songwriter, has won the number one breakup song of all time with 1990 track ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ cover of Prince’s song with 14% of the vote. Sinéad O’Connor has often sparked controversy in her personal life – though she has largely attempted to shy away from the limelight opting to live, as she professes, “in a lovely little village with no-one but eccentrics and cows on one side and ducks on the other.” It’s fantastic to see her win top spot in the ultimate breakup playlist, coinciding with the release of her tell-all autobiography ‘Rememberings’. It is evident her music is just as current now as it was in the 90s.

Swedish pop band Abba, one of the top earning artists of all time, wins second place with ‘The Winner Takes All’ (1980) (12%). The group consisted of two married couples who eventually brokeup in the public eye – and their later music reflected these emotional experiences. Imagine singing a breakup song to the world written about you by your ex-husband – bittersweet.

Third place goes to English singer-songwriter Adele ‘Someone Like You’ (2011) with 11% of the vote. Adele rose to fame with her soulful renditions of love and heartbreak. Last year she announced that a new album was on it’s way citing September 2020 as the release date – but that’s been delayed because of covid. We can expect great things from Adele’s new album – fingers crossed we get to hear it this year.

Fourth place is ‘Crying’ (1962) by Roy Orbison (9.5%), followed by ‘I Will Survive’ (1978) by Gloria Gaynor in fifth place (8%).

Sixth place goes to the late Amy Winehouse with ‘Back to Black’ (2006) and 7% of the vote. Amy Winehouse had a unique style – bringing together many different genres of music from jazz, soul and R&B. A legend in her own right, her music continues to have an impact.

Seventh place is ‘I Will Always Love You’ (1992) by the late Whitney Houston (6.5%).

Bill Withers, who sadly passed away last year, takes eighth place with the timeless track ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ (1971) and 6% of the vote.

Ninth place goes to ‘Say Something’ (2014) by A Great Big World feat Christina Aguilera (4.5%), followed by ‘Without You’ (1994) by Mariah Carey in tenth place (4%) cover of 1971 hit by Harry Nilsson.

Eleventh top breakup song goes to Coldplay with track ‘Fix You’ (2005) (3.5%), followed by Britney Spears in twelfth place (3%) with ‘Everytime’ (2003) and Eric Carmen’s hit ‘All by Myself’ (1996) in thirteenth spot (2.5%).

Second to last, in fourteenth place (2%) is Al Green’s track ‘How Can You Mend a Broken Heart’ (1972).

In last place, with 0.5% of the vote is Sam Smith’s ‘Dancing With A Stranger’ (2020) in fifteenth place, the most recently released track in the top 15 breakup songs of all time.

It’s interesting to note that the 90’s brought about the most iconic breakup songs of all time with a whopping 4 tracks belonging to this decade alone, followed by the 70’s and the noughties tying with 3 tracks each in the top 15.
