What counts as cheating and what doesn’t during lockdown?

The key findings

  • Sexy phone or video calls, as well as sexting and exchanging nudes are all considered cheating.
  • Likes on social media, flirty banter in a group chat, and chatting to an old flame fall into the not cheating bracket.
  • Porn is only cheating when it’s paid for, and faithful when it’s free!
  • The results come from a study of 2000 members on IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s largest extramarital dating site.

It’s pretty clear to us all what constitutes infidelity, however, is it apparent what doesn’t?

What the numbers show

The rules of engagement need revision during lockdown as love rats get creative with how they can cheat.

Illicitencounters.com has compiled a list of what is and what isn’t cheating based on suggestions and responses of 2000 of its members.

Cheating:
Sexy phone or video calls
Sexting
Exchanging nudes
Porn you’ve paid for
Using online dating sites
Catcalling

Not Cheating:
Likes on social media
Free pornography
Flirty banter in group chats
Chatting to an old flame
Sexy thoughts about somebody else
Reading erotic novels

Sexy phone calls and video calls are unanimously considered cheating by men (98%) and women (100%)

A quarter more women than men agree that porn you’ve paid for is cheating.

1% more women (98%) than men (97%) agree that exchanging nudes is adulterous.

Nearly all of the men (96%) and women (91%) do not recognize likes on social media to be unfaithful. Keeping social media in the safe zone for committed couples.

There were a few discrepancies between genders, with 86% of men saying free ponography was not cheating compared to just 74% of women.

73% of men believe flirty banter in group chats is not considered an act of deceit, whilst just a little over half 56% of women agreed.

More women (70%)  than men (57%) concede that chatting to an old flame is not cheating.

Francesca, a member on IllicitEncounters.com said “ I have 2 kids with my ex husband, and I’m currently dating a fella who I met on the site a year ago. Up until a month ago he didn’t live with us. Since he’s moved in, I am finding out lots of things about him that are annoying me. It’s actually made me appreciate my ex much more, and we’ve been chatting casually as of late. My partner doesn’t like it, he thinks it’s cheating, but I haven’t crossed any lines – yet. I’ve got to admit though, I’ve been having a few erotic dreams about my ex and I’m starting to think this new relationship was a mistake.”

Stuart a member on the site said “Me and my wife are both part of a whatsapp group chat where inappropriate comments between friends is the norm, it’s harmless banter. I think porn paid or not paid should be allowed too to be honest, but each to their own. I don’t think catcalling should be considered cheating either, it’s just a laugh isn’t it? It isn’t really cheating if your partner never finds out!”

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Sex and relationships expert Jessica Leoni said “It’s about time myths around what is and what isn’t cheating were debunked. We’re going to reach a virtual cheating spike over the next couple of months as tensions are high at home and spouses are looking for an outlet.

I’m ecstatic that catcalling has made the cheating list, it isn’t acceptable even when you are single!

It’s interesting to see that watching porn can be on both lists depending on whether it’s free or not.”

Beware of Red Tuesday – top day of the year to be dumped is tomorrow (Tues, Feb 12th)

The key findings

  • More couples split up in the week of Valentine’s than any other week of the year;
  • Peak day for dumping is 48 hours before the big day;
  • Most popular way to end a relationship is by text, followed by a phone call and personal chat;
  • Results are from a new survey of 2,000 people by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people

Beware of Red Tuesday (February 12) tomorrow – it is the top day of the year to be dumped, according to new research.

What the numbers show

More couples split up in the week of Valentine’s than any other week of the year.

And the peak day for dumping is 48 hours before the big day.

More than a third of people surveyed (37%) said they had broken with a lover in the week before Valentine’s.

The vast majority of people prefer to end a relationship without meeting their estranged partner face-to-face.

The most popular way to dump someone is by text, chosen by 31% of respondents, followed by a phone call (28%), in person (27%), over Facebook (8%), by Whatsapp (4%) and over Twitter (2%).

The results are from a new survey of 2,000 people by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people.

It found that while Red Tuesday was the most popular day for dumping, it was also one of the peak days to see an illicit lover ahead of Valentine’s.

Eight out of ten people (78%) having an affair with IllicitEncounters.com still choose to spend Valentine’s Day with their regular partner.

Only 16% – one in six – will leave their regular partner in the lurch and go out for a date with their lover on February 14.

The preferred date nights for people having affairs ahead of Valentine’s were the three days before – with February 13 the most likely for an illicit date.

Those having an affair spend an average of £90 on a gift for their lover, compared to £50 on the gift for their partner – 80% more for the mistress.

The reason there are so many break-ups in the most romantic week of the year is that February 14 focuses people’s minds on whether their relationship is really working.

It is easier to call it quits ahead of Valentine’s – saving a money on a gift and also not having to make false declarations of love.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

IllicitEncounters.com spokesman Christian Grant said: “The period between Christmas and February is a popular time for people to spring clean their love lives as well as their homes.

“This period of reflection reaches its peak in the week before Valentine’s when there are more break-ups than at any other time of the year.

“For lots of people, it is easier to call time on a relationship rather than pretend everything is fine and tell lots of white lies.

“Dumping someone electronically is rising in popular with three-quarters of people breaking up with someone over the phone rather than in person.

“Everyone will have seen unhappy couples pretending that they enjoying each other’s company on dinner dates on Valentine’s Day.

“What’s more interesting is looking at the body language of couples out on February 11, 12 or 13 – they are likely to be having a lot more fun while having an affair, celebrating Valentine’s together a few days early before returning to their partners.”

More than one million people have registered with IllicitEncounters.com since the site was started more than ten years ago.

It is enjoying a bumper start to 2019 with registrations up 25% in the first six weeks, as increasing numbers of unhappy spouses act on their New Year’s Resolution to shake up their relationship by starting an affair.

The key findings

  • Survey of 1000 members of IllicitEncounters.com has revealed:
  • Nearly 1 in 3 users polled have gone to the gym to find a partner to cheat with.
  • 26% have found an extramarital relationship through work social events.
  • Of members who responded, 17% have made connections through social media platforms.
  • More cheaters meet in hobby clubs than bars and pubs

Could a newfound interest in fitness be a sign that your significant other is going to cheat on you? A recent survey of 1000 members of IllicitEncounters.com, the U.K’s leading dating website for married people, has revealed the top places where cheaters go to find potential partners to have an affair with.

What the numbers show

When asked how they go about meeting people to cheat with, shockingly almost a third of respondents chose the gym as their preferred place to seek an extramarital companion. This makes the gym the most popular place other than IllicitEncounters.com to meet an extramarital companion. The poll also asked how long the affair would typically last, those who prefer to find their fling in the gym also had shorter relationships.

The other place that polled highly is work social events such as leaving drinks, office parties, and other informal gatherings with 26% looking to get lucky with a colleague. Affairs that got their start at the office party also had a greater longevity.

Social media platforms like Facebook made up 17% of the polling result. With all the technology at our fingertips connecting and reconnecting is easier than ever, it is perfect for touching base with an old flame. Pubs, bars, and hobby clubs also made the list, the latter catering for more niche sections of the population. One user indicated under ‘Other’ that she would meet married men through her job as an animal psychic.

Christian Grant, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com explained:

“Gyms today have become very versatile social spaces, the high end gyms are all kitted with cafes where you can grab a fresh brewed coffee, a glass or two of wine, and even a healthy bite to eat. It’s also increasingly common for gyms to have more than just weights and treadmills at their disposal. Now you can unwind in a steam room, sit in a sauna, or enjoy a relaxing soak in a hot tub.”

“With the continued momentum of the health conscious movement, more people than ever are joining up to gyms. If you want to forgo the discretion guaranteed by using IllicitEncounters.com, a gym membership is the way to go, unless your pet needs a psychic in which case I may know someone”

Love at first spy – 64% of us have tracked our first love on social media to see who they are with now, according to a new survey

facebook

* A quarter of us are STILL with our first love;
* 75% of people experience first love by the time they are 21;
* 41% of people enjoy the best sex of their lives with their first love;
* One in six of us have slept again with our first love after reconnecting with them online post-break up;
* Results are from a survey of 1,000 people by IllicitEncounters.com, Britain’s leading dating website for married people

Most people have looked up their first love on social media to check out who they are dating, according to a new survey.

It found that 64% of people had searched for pictures and updates on the life of the person who first captured their heart on websites such as Facebook and Twitter.

More than a quarter of those surveyed have got back in touch with their first love after looking them up online.

And around one in six people (15%) have slept with their ex after reconnecting online, and a further 21% have thought about having sex with them.

The results were revealed in a survey of 1,000 people by IllicitEncounters.com – Britain’s leading dating website for married people.

The poll found that love truly is all around: 99% of us have fallen in love at least once in our lives by the age of 40.

For most people (55%), this happens between the ages of 15-18, a fifth (20%) fall in love between 19-21 and 8% between 22-25.

The first serious relationship lasts between one and five years for 40% of people.
A quarter of respondents (25%) are still dating their first love now, and a further 24% are still in touch even though they are no longer together.

Less than half of people (41%) said they enjoyed the best sex of their lives with their first love.

Roughly the same number (42%) still talk about their first love with their current partner.
Interestingly, this was one of the answers where there was the biggest difference in the responses of men and women.

Whereas 45% of women talk about their first love with their current partner, just 38% of men do the same.

Half of women said they had been contacted by their ex and had ignored them – whereas this has happened to just 28% of men.

Just over a quarter of us (28%) still reminisce fondly about our first love – men (31%) slightly more than women (27%).

IllicitEncounters.com spokesman Christian Grant said: “Anyone’s first love will have a profound effect on their lives.

With so many of us on social media, it is far easier to secretly track how they are getting on and it is not surprising that most people have done this.

The survey shows clearly that women are far keener than men to talk about their experiences with previous lovers.

I think this is because they want to make sure they don’t repeat previous mistakes and are generally happier talking about their feelings.

Men are much more likely to contact a former lover directly. They also reminisce more fondly about their ex-lovers than women.

I think we can safely say that these two findings are connected: men are much keener on having sex again with their first love than women who are more prepared to move on with their lives.”

IllicitEncounters.com has more than one million members in the UK.

The average income of male members is £54,000 and there are more than 20,000 people online looking for affairs each month.
