As regards the how local or not rule when having an affair goes,
I think it depends on a few things which are probably fairly obvious if you think about it.

How large a place you live in - I live in Preston and the number of times I bump into someone I know is like once in a blue moon.

Where you're meeting, i.e, coffee shop, hotel, etc

How confident you feel about 'winging it if you do bump into someone you know. How guilty or not you tend to act.

Even if you do bump into someone, doesn't necessarily mean they will suspect anything strongly enough to contact your spouse.

How relaxed you can be when meeting in your own locality. If you're like a cat on a hot tin roof, then you're never going to present your best side to your 'date'

Even if you're local to each other, you've always got the option of meeting outside your local area of course.

Apologies to any grannies I'm teaching to suck eggs!
