Charming Brits oust Hollywood Hunks topping 2014 sexiest actors poll

With the BAFTAs taking place in London’s Royal Opera House this weekend, the british film industry is set to take over from the palm trees of Hollywood this award season, but it’s not just the incredible films the UK has turned out in 2013 that has got the world’s attention – it’s the British male actors that have ladies everywhere in a spin according to the UK’s leading dating website for extramarital affairs, IllicitEncounters.com.

Illicit Encounters ran a poll asking their female members who makes their heart’s beat faster on screen, and the top objects of desire were: Benedict Cumberbatch 38% in first place, followed by Tom Hiddleston 27%, and Michael Fassbender 19% third. This is a total turnaround from the 2013 poll which put Wolverine star Hugh Jackman 48% first, the ultra smooth Bradley Cooper 29% second, and the handsome Denzel Washington third with 16%.

British talent really did takeover in 2013, dominating our screens at home and cinema. Benedict Cumberbatch has won the heart of the nation with his fantastic take on Sherlock, giving new life to one of the Uk’s best loved detectives, he also earned a National Television Award for ‘Best Detective’ early this year, and played a plantation owner in Steve McQueen’s brilliant Academy Award and BAFTA nominated ’12 Years a slave’.

Dashing RADA trained Tom Hiddleston was close behind his friend Cumberbatch as heartthrob number two. Hiddleston has become a Hollywood star in his right by playing the villain Loki in the Marvel ‘Thor’ movies, as well as just ending a sell out run at the Donmar Warehouse in Shakespeare’s Coriolanus; Hiddleston’s star is firmly on the rise. Rough and ready German Irish actor Michael Fassbender takes third place, with lead roles in ‘The Counselor’ and also ’12 Years a Slave’ in 2013, Fassbender has secured his place among some of today’s greatest actors – and if you saw him ‘Shame’, it’s not hard to understand why the ladies love him.

Classically Hollywood’s leading men top all the sexiest males polls, but the charm and charisma of this trio seem to have ladies going weak at the knees. Us Brits are having a bit of a moment right now; Hiddleston also stars in Jaguar’s new TV advert along with veteran actor Ben Kingsley and Mark Strong telling us that “It’s good to be bad” as villains in movies are usually played by Brits – maybe it’s because the Americans like to see us lose, but it looks like it’s them losing out in the sexy stakes – viva Britannia!

However it wasn’t all great news for the British thespians as Gerard Butler only just scraped into the sexiest actors list with 1% of the female vote.

Sean Connery Tops Sexy Over 60’s Poll!

 

Women have voted Sean Connery the sexiest over 60 celebrities. The smouldering Scottish Actor who is 82, has been voted as the over 60 star, who women would like to ditch their other half for.

The former James Bond has previously been voted as the Sexiest man of the Century in 1999 and has been named as one of the 100 sexiest men in film history and can now add sexiest man over 60 to his accolades.

Harry Potter star Alan Rickman 67, came in second in the poll of 2,900 female members of leading dating website Illicitencounters.com.

Spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com Mike Taylor said; “Maturity is becoming a more common trait we are seeing members looking for in a partner. We have seen an increase in the number of women joining who are less concerned about a mans age and more attracted to their experience and intelligence. Their has also been an increase in the number of so called sliver foxes signing up and highlighting their salt and pepper locks.”

Another former James Bond came in third, the classically Shakespearian trained Timothy Dalton beat competition from Welsh crooner and The Voice star Tom Jones, who beat musicians Rod Stewart, David Bowie and Eric Clapton all of which made the top ten on the list.

However the survey was bad news for Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, who despite being in the midst of a sold out world tour and headlining Glastonbury this summer, only just scraped into the top 10.

Women find the Irish accent the sexiest, while men go posh!

It seems some men have the luck of the Irish when it comes to the accent department. Women have voted the Irish accent the sexiest in a new poll conducted by leading married dating site IllicitEncounters.com.

Women overwhelmingly found the romantic brogue of such stars as Colin Farrell and Liam Neeson irresistible. The survey of over 6000 members of the dating site also found that men where most likely to be attracted to a woman with an Oxford or so called “posh” accent.

Spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com Rosie Freeman-Jones commented: “Sometimes it’s not just what you say but how you say it, accents are increasingly becoming highlighted in our members profiles as to set them apart from other potentials. Being able to have a conversation is a really important element to forming a successful physical relationship. So finding your dates accent attractive can be a real plus point”

Men with Scottish, West Country and Cockney accents also faired well, meanwhile the least attractive accent for men was a Manchester accent and women with a Birmingham twang also faired poorly in the poll of UK based accents.

Women from Scotland, Wales and Liverpool should also take advantage of their attractive voices however those from Essex and the West Country may not want to promote there vocal region when looking for a date online.

Working Longer Hours Can Lead To An Affair

Spending more hours in the office is leading to a rise in affairs in the workplace according to a recent study by Notatwork.co.uk and married dating site IllicitEncounters.com. The research revealed that people who regularly worked over 45 hours a week are almost 5 times more likely to embark on an extra marital affair.

It estimated that more than seven million people a year in the UK work unpaid extra hours to hold on to their jobs. The study revealed that employees that regularly do more that 50+ hours a week are those working in the Video games industry, financial sector, medicine, journalism, and the emergency services. With all of them having a much higher than average number of work-based affairs.

The most common reason the respondents gave for working longer hours was that workload has increased in recent years and they fear for their jobs, so they work longer hours to make sure they are secure. The video games industry has long had a reputation of having to work long hours with developers doing 12 to 16 hours a day for three to four months at a time, without extra pay due to the belief if they don’t they will be replaced by younger cheaper talent.

Spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com, Mike Taylor, said “Working longer hours without additional pay or benefits can push people into making bad relationship decisions. Workers can find themselves in the office late at night, exhausted and feeling low and take comfort with a co-worker in the same situation, this can then develop as they spend more time with each other than they are with their spouses. Over 54% of all workers admitted that at some-point in their career they have considered engaging in a work-based affair and this study shows the likelihood of them doing so increases exponentially when working hours are increased.”

Unemployment fell to 2.5 million between October and December last year and there are 580,000 more people in work than a year ago, but staff are being squeezed into working longer hours whilst taking home less, with average earnings growth slowing to just 1.4%, below the 2.7% inflation rate.

Employers need to recognise that squeezing more hours out of their workers is counter-productive in more ways than one. It affects their workers’ morale, their physical and mental well being and as this study has shown, can also be detrimental to their personal relationships. None of those is going to be of any long term benefit to any business.

Is It Time For A More Progressive Pope?

In an announcement today the Vatican said Pope Benedict XVI would resign as head of the Catholic Church at the end of this month. Pope Benedict XVI took charge of the Catholic Church during difficult times but has stood stedfast with his hard line defence of fundamental Christian values in the face of what he had described as moral decline across much of Europe. Despite this hardline approach and unwavering conservatism during his papacy Catholics have become the most adulterous religious group in the England and Wales according to research conducted by the UK’s leading marital dating site IllicitEncounters.com

The number of Catholics actively looking for affairs according to the research done by IllicitEncounters.com was almost twice that of other religious groups. The study showed that 21.5% of the 750,000 members on the extra-marital dating site were Catholic, a shockingly high figure since Roman Catholics make up just 10% of the UK population (YouGov & Cambridge University figures).

A Vatican spokesman said that Pope Benedict XVI has taken the decision to retire “aware of great problems the Church faces today”. One of which will undoubtedly be the continuing liberal moral shift, which during the 1960’s had driven him to become a theological conservative, taking uncompromising positions on homosexuality, adultery, women priests and contraception.

Spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com Rosie Freeman-Jones says: “Catholics under Pope Benedict XVI have had a very conservative and uncompromising head of Church, this has had the effect of instilling a sanctity of marriage amongst a generation who are more liberal, leading to a trade off if they become unhappy in the relationship, staying married but having extra-marital affairs.”

It is unclear who will take the papacy after Benedict XVI but a progressive and liberal Pope maybe able to help reunite the Church and curb the falling numbers of Catholics. As it is clear people are becoming more likely to seek a relationship outside of marriage despite religious condemnation.

The Snow may have thawed but some relationships are still frosty

The recent snow fall has led to an influx in new members signing up to look for extra-marital relationships, with the UK’s leading married dating site IllicitEncounters.com reporting a huge spike in traffic and record new signups over the past week.

But what is the reason for the sudden increase in new members, is it the cold weather, the long dark nights or even the post holiday blues? Research conducted by IllicitEncounters.com has revealed that the most common reasons that men stray from their partners are complacency and boredom.

The research showed that men signing up were mostly looking for an escape from their every day life, with the second most common response being “I am looking for more adventurous sex”.

Senior lecturer in psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University Dr David Holmes, who has researched relationships and infidelity. Stated:

“Women look for a better relationship but men look for better sex, a mix that often drops the man into choppy waters. Men often become bored with functional workaholic relationships that are seen as devoid of passion, stimulation and intrigue. In relationships the grass is always greener elsewhere. The excitement of a secret rendezvous and sexual adventures with someone different could act as a fulfilling stimulant. However, most affairs go undetected as they never escalate or develop into competing relationships”

The study also examined what men looked for in a new lovers’ personality. The majority responded that they are after a woman who is sexually confident, surprisingly almost twice the number who were looking to meet a partner with the same interests and values as themselves.

Dr Holmes added: “Couples tend to undervalue sex in their relationship and for some it becomes a chore–getting in the way of more important things. Too many marriages are based on convenience, or only being together for the kids. This is not just fertile ground for affairs but almost certainly will result in one if either partner is a passionate person. Couples should take the need for good passionate sex as the focal expression of a relationship more seriously.’

A spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com Rosie Freeman-Jones commented: “The snow has certainly has had an effect on people joining the site. Members have told me that being snowed in has left them longing for excitement and an escape from their unsatisfying relationship and this is only heightened by the January blues.
