Over Half Of All Affairs Begin At Work

Work-based romances are commonplace, but an increase in work-based affairs is to wreak havoc in offices and marital homes alike.

What the numbers show

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people and the leading authority on infidelity, can report that as many as 55% of married people have admitted to having their very first affair with someone at work.

Worryingly, the survey of over 350 married men and women found that work-based affairs are far from commonplace.

In fact, as many as 78% of all respondents have had an affair with someone they work with, with 10% of those engaging in an affair with their boss or line manager.

Unsurprisingly, high-pressure and demanding jobs were home to the greatest number of adulterers; those who worked in financial services, in the legal profession, and as teachers were home to the majority of love rats:  23%, 18% and 15% respectively.

The alarming number of adulterers seeking comfort in their colleagues is bound to be a source of worry, as the site’s spokesperson, Christian Grant, explains:

“Let’s be honest, we’ve all fancied someone at work at some point or another. We secretly rate our colleagues, from 1 to 10 and flirt with them inappropriately during work socials, so when all is said and done, is this really any surprise?”

    Just 28% of men think that kissing another woman counts as cheating
    8% of men think that seductively dancing with someone is cheating; 14% think flirting is cheating
    Women shared very different views, with 88% thinking that sharing a kiss with another woman is cheating, while 39% count flirting as cheating
    There was some agreement, as only 6% of men and 9% of women agreed that ‘liking’ or complimenting someone’s photos on social media crosses the line
  • The definition of cheating is blurred. Well, for men it is anyway. IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people and the leading authority on infidelity, surveyed over 300 men and 300 women to find out what they considered to be cheating, and the between them were surprisingly vast.

Unsurprisingly, any sexual activity with another person, including ‘sexting’, counts as cheating according to 100% of all men surveyed. That’s to be expected, but an alarmingly low 8% of men think that seductively dancing with someone is cheating, just 14% think flirting is cheating, and only 28% think that sharing a kiss – drunken or otherwise – counts as cheating.

What the numbers show

While women unanimously agreed that any sexual activity consisted as cheating, their views on dancing, flirting and kissing were vastly different. 21% think that dancing counts as cheating, 39% think flirting counts as cheating, and as many 88% think that sharing a kiss with another person is crossing the line.

There was some agreement between men and women however, as only 25% of men and 22% of women agreed that attending a strip club counts as cheating, while 6% of men and 9% of women agreed that ‘liking’ or complimenting someone’s photos on social media crosses the line.

Men and women also saw some agreement when it came to holding hands (10% men, 8% women agree it counts as cheating), remaining good friends with a previous partner (15% men, 26% women) and even having intimate thoughts about someone else (11% men, 29% women).

The site’s spokesperson, Christian Grant, expands:

“Mr Rooney is not the first man to share a drunken kiss with another woman, and he won’t be the last. Unfortunately for women, men have completely different rules when it comes to cheating, and they use those rules to their advantage. A bit of “harmless fun” was what Rooney’s drunken kiss with Laura Simpson has since been described as, and it’s that kind of attitude that means men will continue to cheat; if there are no consequences, and they don’t consider it cheating, they’ll keep on doing it.

“Wayne Rooney has three children, with a fourth on the way, has been married for nearly a decade, but despite all of this, he still couldn’t resist temptation. But should we be surprised? Not only is his view on cheating different to his wife’s, he’s just spent 13 years at Manchester United, the club home to perhaps the most notorious cheater to come out of the UK in recent years – Ryan Giggs. He’s learnt from the best.”

Blondes really do have more fun, it’s been revealed. IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people and the leading authority on infidelity, can reveal that if you’re blonde, you’re more likely to cheat.

What the numbers show

31% of all cheating women on IllicitEncounters.com are naturally blonde, making them the most unfaithful.

They were followed by brunettes (27%), women with black hair (24%), and women with grey hair (10%).

Much maligned for various reasons, gingers can take solace from the fact that they’re officially the most faithful, with just 8% of all mistresses on IllicitEncounters sporting red locks.

Interestingly, a survey of 400 women on IllicitEncounters.com found that as many as 19% dyed their hair blonde, with more and more women wanting to appear more desirable.

So why are blondes more susceptible to an affair? The site’s spokesperson, Christian Grant, explains:

“We’re all very proud and particular about our hair. It’s without doubt our most defining and striking physical feature. Good hair can make you feel more confident in your appearance, and it definitely has a significant impact on your mood.

“We’ve always known that blonde haired women are traditionally more desirable, more outgoing and more confident. “Combine their youthful looks, their outgoing and livelier attitude, and confidence in spades, and it’s easy to see why blonde haired woman are more likely to cheat.

“Whether it’s because their marriage has hit a rough patch, or the idea of a secret tryst on the side just happens to take their fancy, blondes want and *can* have their cake and eat it too. And luckily for her, she’s exactly what men want, making her job even easier.”

Being an only child can leave you with a severe need for attention, and as it turns out, that’s the perfect foundation for an affair in later life.

What the numbers show

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people and the leading authority on infidelity, found that a majority of the members on their site (34%) are, in-fact, an only child.

28% of all members are the eldest of their siblings, while as many as 23% are the youngest.

On the other hand, it’s very good news if you’re the middle child. Often known for being neglected growing up, the middle child can revel in the fact that they’re the most faithful of their siblings; just 15% of all adulterers on IllicitEncounters.com are a middle child.

Interestingly, the site also found a larger than expected number of people with step-siblings. Just under a quarter, 24%, of members on the site have a step-sibling, with their parents’ history of having multiple partners having seemingly rubbed off on them.

With a childhood fraught with loneliness, it’s easy to see why an only child has all the makings of an adulterer. A lack of attention, a lack of a sibling, and lower social skills are all contributing factors that leave an only child feeling needy and desperate for attention in their later years. While one partner can help fill that void, it often isn’t enough.

“It’s well-known that an only child can experience the feeling of immense loneliness in their childhood, and that comes back to haunt them in their future relationships.

“Having been starved of attention for so long, it’s something that they find themselves in desperate need of. “On the other end of the scale, a middle child is surrounded by loving parents and siblings. They don’t grow up with the same need of love and affection, but they’re also more than comfortable during moments of isolation.

“Step-siblings, too, are negatively influenced by their childhood. Having seen their parents unable to remain happy with a single partner, it’s easy to see why they’re more susceptible to following suit.”

Given that the profession is dominated by women, it’s unsurprising to find that over 80% of these new members are female. Interestingly, over half (59%) of teacher’s who’ve signed up to the site in recent weeks come from small towns and rural areas, while 80% of 300 teachers who were surveyed stated that “boredom and loneliness” kicked in shortly after the summer holidays commenced at the end of July.

75% stated that they were looking for a summer fling, but a quarter want a long-term affair.

“Teaching is one of the most stressful and time-consuming jobs out there, so teachers are far too consumed by work throughout most of the year to notice the cracks appearing in their marriage.

This is especially true for those who live in rural areas or small towns, with not a lot of access to leisurely activities. They find themselves trapped indoors while their partner and friends are at work, so they’re looking for a little bit of short-term fun to help alleviate some of that boredom.

“Luckily for them, they’ve got all the time in the world and an empty house all to themselves, and it’s only a matter of time before the itch to cheat kicks in.”

Cat Owners Are Most Likely to Cheat, While Dog Owners are the Most Faithful

Suspicious that your partner might be cheating? Forget checking their emails, tracing their footsteps or stalking their social media feeds, but do be wary if they own a cat.

That’s because cat owners are officially the most adulterous pet owners in the country.

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people and the leading authority on infidelity, found that over a quarter of 1,000 of its members own cats, making them by far the most adulterous pet owners.

The survey found that you’d also be inclined to be wary if your significant other owns a rabbit, with 17% of all respondents home to the pet perhaps best known for its virility.

15% owned reptiles, such as lizards and snakes, while as many as 12% owned a rodent of some kind, such as a hamster, gerbil or mouse; 9% of respondents are home to fish.

As for man’s best friend? Unsurprisingly, dog owners are officially the most faithful pet owners – just 7% of all respondents owned a dog.

“It’s often been said that a person reflects the traits of their animal, so is it any surprise to see cats top the list?

“The jury has always been out on whether cats genuinely love their human companions, or whether their loyalty lies with whoever can best satisfy their stomachs.

“Simply put, cats will follow whoever can best satisfy their needs, no matter how long they’ve been with a particular human.

“It’s also no surprise to see rabbits, who have a pretty notorious reputation for their powers of reproduction, and reptiles such as snakes – not exactly known for their loyalty – closely follow cats.

The site studied over 10,000 profiles to find out what common traits link to create the archetypal cheat.

The most common trait among cheating men was wealth, with references to being rich, wealthy or affluent appearing in a staggering 45% of all profiles.

This was followed by height. To be exact, 40% of all male profiles on the site were 6ft or taller.

Finally, intelligent men who were educated to at least a university degree level made up as much as 38% of all profiles on the site, indicating that smarter men are more likely to cheat.

For women, the most common trait was actually their job. As many as 30% of all women on IllicitEncounters.com describe themselves as lonely.

This was followed by the 27% of women who described themselves with terms such as ‘virile’ and finally, housewives, who make up 20% of all female profiles on the site – it’s the most popular female occupation to boot.

The site’s spokesperson, Christian Grant, explains:

“Our results show that men have a tough time suppressing their ego. Tall, affluent, smart – these men have it all… or at least, they think they can have it all. They want to have their cake and eat it too, and that includes having as many relationships as they see fit.

“Not to mention, as a smart, wealthy and tall man, you’re more likely to be attracting female attention, whether you like it or not, which only serves to fuel their ego and make them consider an affair as a plausible option.

“Women on the other hand, paint a different story altogether. Your typical cheating women isn’t driven by arrogance, ego or lust, but by a sense of loneliness, thanks to a lack of satisfaction in her marriage.

“This loneliness is further compounded for housewives, who potentially spend hours alone, only to further be neglected when their husbands come home.”

Warmer weather, clearer skies and longer days – summer is in full swing, and that means more people are cheating than any other time of the year.

That’s according to IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people and the leading authority on infidelity.

The site has seen a 20% increase in site activity in the first two week’s of the month, and this has significantly increased in the third week – to 45% to be precise.

However, it’s on Friday 21st July – dubbed Frisky Friday – that adultery in the UK for 2017 is set to hit its peak.

Frisky Friday represents the last chance adulterers have to see their lovers as schools across the country finish, and long summer holidays with their family soon to commence, and as much as a 65% rise in site activity is expected.

The site also surveyed 300 of its members and found that as many as 75% were planning on staying in touch with their secret trysts while they were holidaying with their family, while 20% plan on meeting up with them shortly after they return home.

Astonishingly, 5% have arranged and are planning to meet their fellow adulterer while they’re away on holiday.

“While many of us long for the summer – the longer evenings, clear skies and generally upbeat atmosphere – the hidden truth is that it’s the season that’s ripe for adultery.

Calling their fellow adulterer by a different name, especially one of the same gender, was the most popular tip; if her name is Christina, then Chris would be the substitute.

A ‘burn phone’, separate from your personal or work phone, also came highly recommended, just in case your significant other takes a look through your messages when you’re not looking.

Finally, no exchanging of photos came highly recommended, as pictures of an unknown person on your phone would be sure to alert your partner.

The site’s spokesperson, Christian Grant, explains:

“With a wife and, possibly, children to commit too, meeting up with your secret tryst over the weekend, or even communicating with them, can often be impossible.

“You don’t have the time, and you’re likely spending plenty of time with your wife and kids all day, so the risk of your mistress’ name popping up on your phone for all to see is far too great.

“That means that Monday mornings, normally on the commute to work, are the first opportunity adulterers get to communicate with each other after a long weekend of silence.

“It also makes it incredibly difficult for anyone who suspects that their partner might be cheating on them to actually catch them out.

“We also have a lot of high flying professionals on the site; on Monday’s at 8am they’re either on their commute into work or already in the privacy of their office – the perfect time to discretely send a much awaited message to their lover.”

The UK’s Most Adulterous Constituencies Have Been Revealed

  • Labour are officially the most adulterous political party in the UK, home to 15.56% of the UK’s electorate
  • The Conservatives, home to backstabbers such as Michael Gove, have an unfaithful voting base, too; they’re third overall with 11.96% of the electorate
  • The 2015 Election Infidelity Index saw the Conservatives oust Labour by 13.67% compared to 13.08%. With the Conservatives going on to win that election, Corbyn could be set to win this year, with the old adage of cheaters never prosper being proven false.
  • Labour constituency, Westminster North, is the most adulterous constituency in the UK, while the most faithful is South Cambridgeshire, currently held by the Conservatives

It’s unclear as to who might occupy Number 10 in a week or so, however, what we can definitely say right now is that Jeremy Corbyn is the winner, but not of a poll that he’d be particularly proud of.

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people and the leading authority on infidelity, have compiled the 2017 Election Infidelity Index, which lists each constituency in the UK in order of how adulterous they are, as well as the most and least adulterous political parties.

As it turns out, Labour voters are officially the biggest love rats in the UK, with Corbyn’s party home to 15.56% of UK’s electorate. And with Corbyn’s own party betraying him – whether that’s the leaking of his manifesto or challenging his leadership last year – it’s no surprise to see the party as the most unfaithful.

Meanwhile, the Conservatives, who themselves are no strangers to a bit of backstabbing – we’re looking at you here, Gove – are in third place with 11.96% of the electorate.

It makes a change from the 2015 Election Infidelity Index, in which the Conservatives ousted Labour by 13.67% compared to 13.08%. Perhaps that makes good reading for Corbyn; with the Conservatives going on to win the 2015 General Election, it proves that the old adage of cheaters never prosper is in fact false.

North of the border, Nicola Sturgeon, who seems hellbent on jettisoning Scotland out of the UK, can take some solace from the fact that her supporters also have trust and commitment issues; with 13.97% of the electorate being unfaithful, the SNP are the 2nd most adulterous party in the UK.

Interestingly, the most faithful voters are UKIP, with just 3.39% of the electorate, although the most faithful constituency overall is Kingston and Surbiton, currently held by Conservative MP James Berry.

The top 6 most adulterous constituencies all currently held by a Labour MP; Westminster North, Nottingham South, Leyton and Wanstead, West Bromwich West, Greenwich and Woolwich and Newcastle upon Tyne East finished 1st to 6th respectively.

The most adulterous Conservative constituency, and 7th overall, is South Cambridgeshire, currently held by Heidi Allen.

While he leads the most unfaitfhul party in the country, Jeremy Corbyn’s constituency (Islington North) is one of the most faithful in the country – 580th out of a possible 650th.

And with regards to our Prime Minister? She’s fighting for re-election in what is the 45th most adulterous constituency in the UK – Maidenhead.

While Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron aims to prove why his party is relevant, his constituency comes in an aptly boring and non-eventful 486th place; UKIP leader Paul Nuttall resides in Boston and Skegness – 146th overall. South Thanet, where Nigel Farage stood for election in 2015, is 140th overall.

In terms of the SNP, Nicola Sturgeon’s constituency – Glasgow South – is 107th, while the most adulterous Scottish constituency overall is Glasgow North, currently held by SNP MP Patrick Grady. It is the 10th most adulterous constituency overall.

“Most of his MP’s don’t like him, some are actively betraying him by leaking his manifesto, so is it any surprise to see Labour as the most unfaithful political party in the UK? Probably not.

“The good news for Jeremy is that If this is any reflection of the public’s voting intention, then he can look forward to the next five years as our leader. With that said, the Conservatives aren’t far behind, and with Michael Gove among their ranks, they know first hand what betrayal looks like. Let’s not forget that Boris Johnson himself has a fairly patchy history when it comes to infidelity.

“Meanwhile, the SNP, desperate to leave the UK, also want to leave their partners from the look of it, or at the very least cheat on them.

“What is a turn up for the books, however, is the performance of UKIP. While Paul Nuttall is much maligned, so too Nigel Farage in some quarters, their electorate are among the most faithful among us.

“There are other ways to look at it, however. With Labour currently occupying more seats in the north of the country – and in places that are generally less affluent – it’s no surprise to see their voters stray.

“Many people cheat out of fear of the economic implications of a divorce. I mean, why risk your financial security when you can safely fill the gaping hole in your relationship?”

*The number of people cheating in each constituency was calculated using the postcode data of members of IllicitEncounters.com. This was then run against the number of people eligible to vote in each constituency to give a percentage or Infidelity Index for that area. The results of each constituency following the 2015 General Election were used when compiling the data, meaning that MPs that may have resigned in recent weeks or months are still included if they were elected in 2015.
