With glittering decorations and flowing fizz, the office Christmas party is often the highlight of the corporate calendar. But for a surprisingly large number of Brits, the event is less about festive cheer and more about secret flings, with new research revealing the shocking scale of infidelity at Christmas work parties.

A study of 2,800 UK adults by the extramarital dating site IllicitEncounters.com has uncovered the truth about workplace party antics, finding that 31% of people admit to having cheated on their partner at a Christmas party.

The data suggests these illicit encounters are often far from spontaneous. A telling 63% of those who strayed confessed they had mentally “pre-selected” a colleague they were hoping to hook up with before the event even began. 

For nearly 1 in 5 (19%), what started as a tipsy one-night stand escalated into a long-term affair. Perhaps most surprisingly, only 15% reported feeling immediate regret the next morning, suggesting many see it as a calculated risk rather than a drunken mistake.

The research also identified a clear ranking of the most ‘dangerous’ professions when it comes to office party infidelity, based on the percentage of employees in each sector admitting to festive cheating:

Michael*, 34, an investment banker from London, shared his experience: “The party is the open secret. You spend weeks building up to it, spotting who’s single or who’s been giving you that look in meetings. Last year, I’d been low-key flirting with a woman from the design team for months.

At the party, with a few drinks and the boss gone, it just… happened. We booked a taxi to hers before the last round was called. My girlfriend thought I was in a hotel with colleagues. It was thrilling, and honestly, no regrets. We still message sometimes.”

In a shocking new study, it seems the key to a long-lasting and happy marriage may not lie in romantic getaways or date nights, but in something far more unexpected – sleeping apart. 

The poll by IllicitEncounters.com, which surveyed 2,000 people (1,000 men and 1,000 women), has uncovered a growing trend among couples who are saying goodbye to the traditional shared bed and embracing a ‘sleep divorce’.

According to the findings, a staggering 76% of people who admitted to cheating on their partner are still sharing the same bed. In contrast, only 24% of those who cheat sleep in separate bedrooms. The numbers have sparked debate over whether sleeping together could be driving couples apart rather than bringing them closer.

A ‘sleep divorce’ isn’t as dramatic as it sounds. In fact, it’s a growing trend where couples intentionally choose to sleep apart to preserve their relationship. Far from being a sign of trouble, many couples who opt for sleep divorces say it actually strengthens their bond by removing the irritations that come with sharing a bed – like snoring, restless nights, or mismatched sleep patterns.

While the idea might seem unromantic, it’s becoming increasingly popular, even among celebrities. Stars like Bette Midler and Joe Swash have gone public about sleeping separately from their partners, praising the arrangement for the positive impact it’s had on their relationships. Whilst Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty also revealed they sleep in separate bedrooms, prioritising sleep quality and personal space to keep their relationship strong.

Jessica Leoni, a sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com, explained that many couples are increasingly realising that sharing a bed might be more of a habit than a necessity. “Many couples feel like they should share a bed because that’s what’s expected,” Leoni says. “But if one partner is tossing and turning or there’s emotional distance between them, it can make things worse. A ‘sleep divorce’ can sometimes reduce that tension, giving couples space to sleep better and reconnect.”

But what about couples who continue to share a bed despite being in an unhappy relationship? The study revealed a significant number of these individuals are cheating on their partners – yet they still choose to sleep in the same bed.

One participant in the poll, Sarah, confessed that even though she’d been unfaithful for over a year, she still shares the same bed with her husband. “It’s complicated,” she admitted. “On the surface, everything looks fine. We’ve got kids, a house, and a routine. But it’s all a facade. The truth is, we’re both miserable, but neither of us wants to admit it. 

Sharing a bed feels like one of the last things we’re holding onto, even though it’s really only for appearances. I’m cheating because I feel emotionally disconnected, but I guess we sleep together because we’re both too afraid of the alternative – it would make it all too real.”

Leoni believes that cases like Sarah’s are more common than people think. “Cheating often happens because one partner feels unfulfilled,” she explains. “But instead of addressing the root issue, many couples stay stuck in old patterns, like sharing a bed, to maintain the image of a ‘normal’ marriage. They’re afraid that sleeping separately will be seen as a sign of failure. But the truth is, a ‘sleep divorce’ could be exactly what’s needed to heal the relationship – or at least start the conversation.”

The moment you say ‘I do’ is usually seen by couples as one of the highlights of a relationship – a milestone you’ll never forget. 

But it turns out that the initial wedding bliss doesn’t last long before people start wondering if they made the right decision, especially if you’re a man.

According to research conducted by IllicitEncounters.com, who surveyed 1,800 users of the extramarital dating site, nearly three quarters of men (72%) and over half of women (54%) have regrets about tying the knot.

So, how long after a wedding can you expect marital remorse to kick in? Shockingly, one in ten people questioned if they made the right decision within the first year of marriage. But for the majority, you can expect the regret to start taking its toll three years after the initial ‘I do’.

Incredibly, people who regret getting married to their partner aren’t actually against the idea of tying the knot – they just chose the wrong person to do it with. In fact, 38% say they should have stayed together with an ex.

The dull routine of married life was the next big reason people have second thoughts about getting married, with 1 in 3 people declaring they hate the monotony of matrimony. 

No longer being physically attracted to their partner led to 1 in 5 people declaring they wish they hadn’t gone ahead with getting married in the first place.

A member of the extramarital dating site who took part in the survey, Samuel, said, “It was about two and half years into my marriage that I started regretting my decision to walk down the aisle – I’d never been a massive fan of the idea, but I knew that’s what my wife expected of me, so I just popped the question to make her happy.

The regret really started to sink in when I came across my ex’s social media profile. I started questioning why I’d ever broken up with her – she was kind, stunning, interesting, funny… but at the time I just wasn’t ready for anything serious, so we parted ways.

I couldn’t go on thinking about what might have been, so I bit the bullet and contacted her. It soon escalated into a steamy meet-up, and although it was a one-time thing, it definitely stirred something inside me because life’s just far too short to live in regret.”

Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Édouard Mendy, comes in first place with 17% of the vote. Mendy’s is the story of the underdog, who went from nearly quitting football and having to go on the dole, all whilst expecting his first child, to being at the top of his game. His rise to football stardom is admirable. Tall, dark and handsome, paired with a sexy french accent – no wonder Brits are entranced by Édouard Mendy.

A close second with 16% of the vote is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. Salah is undeniably sexy, the beard, the hair, abs so firm you could literally grate cheese off – graphic but accurate. Indeed, Brits are besotted by this Egyptian God.

In third place (13%) is Chelsea’s Jorginho, whose real name is Jorge Luis Frello Filho. Last year Jorginho won the award for Best Fifa Men’s Player and the UEFA Player of the Year. This young, gorgeous Italian stallion has stolen England’s hearts with his undeniable football skills, along with his chiseled physique and cheeky smile. 

Fourth place is Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson (11%).

Fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth, are all Chelsea players – Timo Werner (9%), Kai Havertz (8.5%), Reece James (6.5%) and Mason Mount (6%).

Second, to last is Liverpool’s Alisson Becker with 4%. Last place and tenth is the Liverpool player Trent Alexander Arnold (2%). 

The respondents were also asked to vote on the sexiest manager from each team. A whopping 68% voted Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp sexy compared to only 32% voting for Chelsea’s Thomas Tuschel. 

Jürgen Klopp is a grey-haired German hunk who looks strong and manly, a force to be reckoned with, top this off with a sexy pair of specs and the man exudes intelligence and confidence. 

Thomas Tuchel, also German, on the other hand, is just not that sexy. How can the nation be a fan when his own team hates him for ruining their day off recently – he gives me strict teacher vibes putting Chelsea in detention like that!

Sex and relationships expert for the website, Jessica Leoni, has compiled and commented on the results below:

81% of people agree that accents play a major part in a person’s datability, but what accent is the sexiest? 

Parlez-vous français? Oui? Très magnifique! French is crowned the language of love with nearly a quarter (24%) of all men finding this to be the sexiest language of them all! The French speak in a breathy and husky tone, with pronunciation that is delivered poetically, it’s enchanting. If that’s not hot, I don’t know what is. Notable French celebrities, whose accents are as seductive as anything, include award-winning actresses Marion Cotillard and Juliette Binoche, as well as the most recent Bond girl Léa Seydoux.

In second place is the irresistible Italian accent with 16% of the vote. Notable Italian celebrities include Sophia Loren, one of the greatest female stars of classical Hollywood Cinema, her accent is so inviting and seductive, even at the grand age of 87. Another prominent Italian fashion model and former Bond girl is Monica Belluci, let’s be honest, if the Italian accent is good enough for James Bond – who are we to argue.

The third place for female accents goes to Norway (13%). Brits are obsessed with Nordic countries since series such as Vikings and The Last Kingdom have boosted their popularity. A Scandinavian accent on a gorgeous blonde and blue-eyed woman gives us those Viking vibes, no wonder men are captivated.

Fourth place goes to Irish accents with 11.5%, fifth to Australian (8.5%), and sixth to Spanish (7%).

Next, in seventh place is the Dutch accent  (6.5%), followed by Portuguese eighth (4%). 

Second, to last place is Scottish (3.5%) and last but not least is American (1%).

In the men’s category, the lucky Irish accent is the sexiest of them all! A whopping 21% of British women find Irish to be the most desirable accent on a man. Such as the likes of actors Liam Neelson, Cillian Murphy and Colin Farrel.

The second sexiest male accent is South African (20%). The South African accent has unique tones, very approachable and friendly, no wonder women are drawn to it. 

Honorable third place goes to men with a French accent (16%) – ooh la, la! French-speaking, french-kissing, Frenchman? Enchanté! Take Emmanuel Macron the French president, for example, love him or hate him, his accent definitely makes the news more riveting. 

The fourth-place sexiest male accent is Scottish with 10.5% of the vote, followed by Canadian in fifth (7%). Italian comes in sixth sexiest accent (5.5%), followed by Welsh in seventh (4%) and New Zealand in eighth (3.5%).

Spanish ranked second to last in ninth place (2.5%) and finally Polish in tenth overall sexiest (2%).

The respondents were also asked if they have ever rejected someone on the basis of their accent and more than half said they have (59%). A further 30% of people admit they’ve been on a date before with someone whom they didn’t understand because of a strong accent.

It’s apparent that accents play a highly critical role in how attractive we find people. It can make or break the beginnings of a romantic rendezvous. If their voice doesn’t feel like music to our ears then listening to them speak could become a massive turn-off. 

Accents which are from a foreign country can be especially seductive. They make your date exude an air of sophistication, and feel exotic and worldly, which is sexy in its own right. 

We as humans are inherently attracted to people who we deem to have lots of ambition and life experience. Somebody who speaks English with a foreign accent gives the impression they have seen the world, they are interesting and they are smart – of course we will find that unbearably sexy.

Will the defendant please rise – the verdict is… guilty! Lawyers are the sexiest profession of the year. Accounting for a whopping 20% of the vote – women find men in the courtroom the sexiest of them all, case closed. 

What’s up Doc? We’ve run the diagnostics and the results confirm second sexiest profession are the men in white – Doctors – with 18% of the vote. 

CEO’s turn heads with 15% of the vote and in honourable third place.

Can he fix it? Yes, he can! Builders are hot property in fourth sexiest jobs with 12%. 

Turn up the heat!  Firefighters come in fifth sexiest (9.5%). On a primal level, a Firefighter is in every woman’s fantasy. The masculine physique, the muscle and sweat combined with raw unbridled passion… okay, a little carried away there, but what’s not to like?

Women think Footballers are fit, scoring sixth place (7%). It’s plain to see that fame and fortune help with sex appeal.

Teachers score seventh sexiest profession (5%), seems the ladies are up for a little bit of detention, naughty. 

On the less sexy scale are Financial Advisors with only 3% of the vote in eighth place. Economics? Boring. With everything getting more expensive and people are scrimping for cash – seems we’ve all had enough of talking about money. 

999, call the Police! Or don’t for that matter… we’d rather avoid a copper as only 2.5% of women find the five-o sexy. Cops have had a bad rep over the last few years in Britain, with overall confidence in the police dropping year on year since 2017, as reported by the ONS*, it’s clearly had an effect on their desirability. 

In last place with 2% of the vote, it seems Estate Agents are a bit of a turn-off. These notorious charmers often misinterpret the facts to get a quick sale, and with rent and house prices continuing to go up it’s no wonder we’re not the biggest fans of these smooth-talking salesmen. 

It’s not just ripped, topless men that make the cut, attraction is so much more than that. Sure the physical is important, but women want more than a hunk – and this list makes that fact indisputable.

Lawyers and Doctors coming out on top suggest it takes more than a beefcake to turn a woman on. Confidence, intelligence, philanthropy, and wealth – are more important qualities that make up a man’s sex appeal, and what men do for work speaks volumes.

The USA celebrates National Ex-Spouse Day tomorrow (Thursday, April 14th), would you believe it? In jest of this farcical holiday, IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading website for extramarital affairs, surveyed 800 married men (married in the last 3 years) who have supposedly moved on, to find out what they truly think about their exes! Do men who are cheating on their wives cheat with an ex? Still, miss their ex? Regret breaking up?

It’s every woman’s fear that they won’t live up to their partner’s ex. Turns out you are right to be worried as 34% of adulterous men actually regret splitting up with their ex-partner. With nearly a quarter (24%) admitting to being unfaithful to their current partners with an ex. Over half of those who had not cheated with an ex said they would if they were given half the chance (52%). These stats suggest the doors are never truly closed on an old flame even if you marry somebody else. 

The respondents who had cheated with an ex gave reasons as to what motivated them. The number one reason male love-rats cheat with an ex is that they miss them (39%). The second most popular claim is that the sex is better with their ex than with their current spouse (26%) followed by, it’s an easy lay that requires minimal effort (19%). A further 8% admit to cheating on their partner with an ex as a way of fulfilling a sexual fantasy or kink.

We also asked the respondents if it’s possible to be just friends with an ex and an overwhelming 73% of the adulterous men agree that it is absolutely impossible. 

Furthermore, we asked the men if they were ever caught slipping by calling their current wives by an ex’s name and a staggering 39% said yes! Probably the last thing you want to do if you’re having an affair with your ex.

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com, said “It’s risky business marrying a man that’s already been in a serious relationship or worse, a divorcee. A man with an ex-missus is a man with baggage and a shocking amount haven’t gotten over their ex. 

Why do men regret breaking up with their exes? Perhaps it’s taken marrying someone else to find the grass only looked greener from the other side. 

Either way, it’s easy to slip under the covers with an ex when things aren’t going so well at home, old habits. They know to satisfy you, how to push the right buttons.

If both parties are game it can be a very safe and fulfilling affair, but if one person wants to get back together then you’re treading dangerous territory. Oh and be careful to not call your spouse by your ex’s name, especially when having sex, that’s a big no-no!”

Turns out dogs are man’s best friend, as women who own cats are nearly twice as likely to stray!

A recent survey of 1400 female members of IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people, has shown the link between pet ownership and infidelity. 

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationships expert for IllicitEncounters.com, has compiled and commented on the results below:

It may be an idea to vet what pet your partner owns to avoid being cheated on! 

The cat is out of the bag. Feline friends are the most unfaithful bunch with a whopping 22% of cat owners cheating on their husbands compared to any other pet parent, be warned.

And if you think something fishy is going on when your wives aren’t at home you’re probably right. The second most unfaithful pet parents are women who own fish (19%).

Female love rats that own rodents such as guinea pigs, rats and hamsters, come in third place with 16.5%.

You would be forgiven if you took your wife for a snake, as many as 15% of cold-blooded adulteress’ own reptiles such as snakes, geckos, turtles and lizards. 

Chicks who cheat that own birds at home make up 13.5% of pet parents. 

Last but not least are dog owners (12%). A woman with a canine companion is least likely to stray out of all the pet parents. The beloved pooch is renowned for its loyalty and so it seems are their doggy mums. Oh yes, you’ve been a very, very good boy Fido.

These days you need to beg the question, when dating, are you a dog or a cat lady?

You can now spot a cheat by a hot mug of tea as 66% of male love rats prefer tea over coffee.

Affair-seekers are in favour of Tetley over any other brand of tea (23%), making Tetley the number one cuppa for cheating British men! Perhaps they should change their ad campaign to ‘For the love of extramarital affairs, for the love of Tetley!’

Second place goes to the quintessentially English tea Twinnings (21%). Holder of a royal warrant – which means that this tea supplies her majesty Queen Elizabeth and those that dwell at Buckingham palace. History is rife with scandalous No surprise there then! Royal romances and sordid affairs go hand in hand – all the way from Henry VIII to Prince Charles. 

Affair seekers don’t monkey around when it comes to a hot cuppa PG Tips – coming in at a respectable third (16%) favourite tea! 

Fourth place goes to Pukka tea (8%), followed by Typhoo (6.5%) in fifth and Lipton (4%) in sixth.

Seventh and eighth place go to Clipper (2.5%) and Whittards (2%) – both on the rather low end of preferences.

Last but not least, a partner that drinks Scottish Blend tea is the most likely to be faithful out of the top 10, with only a meagre 1% of love rats enjoying this Scottish brew.

26% of the men surveyed said they actually much preferred going on dates that involve no alcohol. Out of these 90% said not drinking meant they won’t have any beer goggles and 67% said not drinking meant they wouldn’t make a fool out of themselves. 

The great English musician Sting, known to have had an affair on his ex-wife Frances Tomelty with actress Trudie Styler, once sung the lyrics ‘‘I don’t drink coffee I drink tea, my dear…’, let’s just leave that one there. The proof is in the Tetley!’

Meat Eaters are Selfish Lovers, whilst Vegans have the most Sex!

IllicitEncounters.com the UK’s leading dating site for married people polled 1200 members (married in the last five years) split equally by meat-eaters, pescatarians, vegans and vegetarians on their bedroom antics to ascertain whether there is a correlation between the things that we eat and the sex that we have. 

The study found that meat-eaters have the least amount of sex compared to their fish and veggie-eating counterparts, with the majority of meat-eaters (51%) getting down and dirty only 1-2 times a week. Famous meat-eaters include Rihanna, Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey.

The majority of pescatarians (39%) and vegetarians (43%) tied on how often they enjoy the act of love, with the bulk of each attesting to having sex 3-4 times a week.

Vegans are the raunchiest lot with a whopping 36% claiming they have sex 5-6 times a week. Famous vegans include Ariana Grande, Brad Pitt, Russel Brand and Miley Cyrus. 

A gleeful 81% of vegans reported that they are very satisfied in their sex lives, compared to a miserable 57% of meat-eaters. 

Vegetarians were pretty happy too with 77% saying they are very satisfied with their sex lives. 

Pescatarians were somewhere in between meat-eaters and vegans with an honorable 68% very satisfied.

Vegans (63%), vegetarians (55%) and pescatarians (51%) claim they are givers in bed rather than takers, only 41% of meat-eaters describe themselves as givers – suggesting that meat-eaters are selfish in bed.

The respondents were also asked how adventurous they thought they were in sack on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being vanilla and not wanting to try out new things in bed and 10 being extremely adventurous, open to new experiences and kink! 

Vegetarians are by far the most adventurous scoring on average 8 out of 10 on the kink-o-metre. Joint second are pescatarians and vegans scoring a 6 on average. Lastly are the meat-eaters, who only saw themselves as medium kinky with 5 on average for bedroom adventurousness.

Katie, 50, Devon said “If you eat crap you’re going to have rotten sex, really. You are what you eat and ain’t nobody is interested in sleeping with someone who lives off quarter pounders and sausage rolls!”

Georgette, 31, London said “I didn’t have a very high sex drive when I still ate meat. I quit 2 years ago and not only do I want to have sex more but I actually enjoy it better. I don’t feel so heavy, I like my body and I have tons more energy.’
