Married people in Sussex have topped the list of the people most likely to ditch their spouses on Valentine’s day. The study done by the UK’s leading married dating site IllicitEncounters.comfound that the residents of Sussex were over 3 times more likely to spend Valentine’s day with their extra-marital lover or mistress than their husband or wife.

The study into Valentine’s day romance also discovered that having been disappointed or overlooked during previous Valentine’s days and anniversaries, dissatisfied married people are pre-emptively signing up to look for a new lover for February 14th rather than just waiting to be disappointed again.

The weekend before Valentine’s day saw a large increase in traffic visiting the site and thousands of new members joining the site looking for a date on Valentine’s day after it apparently became clear that a romantic meal or weekend away was not going to happen.

The counties containing the married couples least likely to stray from their partner on Valentine’s day are Hampshire, Devon, Cardiff and Bristol, these couples are the most likely to spend the night with their other half and delay seeing their bit on the side until after Valentine’s day.

Rosie added “This should be a cautionary tale to those people who have taken their other halves for granted, that they could be actively looking for romance elsewhere! Also it should offer some comfort to people that if the romance has gone from their relationship, they are not alone in that situation.”

The study also revealed that both men and women where likely to spend almost twice as much on gifts for their secret tryst than their husband or wife, with popular gifts being perfume, trips abroad, champagne or high end electronic goods as offerings to help seduce a new lover.

Women reveal the sexiest male professions

The study asked over 1,500 female members of the UK’s largest married dating website what they thought the sexiest profession was for a partner and why. The top result was revealed to be a musician or artist with 32% of the votes, a profession that embodies passion and creativity, which is in stark contrast to the second highest (24%), which was men who work in the financial service sector, the study describing them as ambitious, confident and intelligent.

According to the study, the least attractive profession was a professional footballer; women viewed them as over-confident, vain, self-absorbed and as having a bad reputation.

IllicitEncounters.com spokesperson Rosie Freeman-Jones commented: “Men think confidence is sexy, what they don’t realise is over-confidence can be incredibly off-putting. Women who are looking for extra-marital excitement are often looking for a man who is as attractive on the inside as they are on the outside. They want some one they can have an emotional as well as physical connection with. It appears that whilst footballers may be attractive on the pitch, off the pitch most women feel they would have little or nothing in common with them. So despite their fame and fortune, most women find their arrogance, and reputation as a real turn off.”

Other professions that made the ‘hot’ list include teachers, doctors and writers/journalists. Teachers were described as inspiring, caring and interesting whilst doctors where seen to be professional, motivated and protective.

Joanne, 39, from London, who uses IllicitEncounters.com to meet married men commented “When I am looking for a potential date I am looking for someone who can provide stimulating conversation, who has intelligence, passion and can be creative, I want a man who is motivated. The recent snow fall has led to an influx in new members signing up to look for extra-marital relationships, with the UK’s leading married dating site IllicitEncounters.com reporting a huge spike in traffic and record new signups over the past week.

But what is the reason for the sudden increase in new members, is it the cold weather, the long dark nights or even the post holiday blues? Research conducted by IllicitEncounters.com has revealed that the most common reasons that men stray from their partners are complacency and boredom.

The research showed that men signing up were mostly looking for an escape from their every day life, with the second most common response being “I am looking for more adventurous sex”.

Senior lecturer in psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University Dr David Holmes, who has researched relationships and infidelity. Stated:

“Women look for a better relationship but men look for better sex, a mix that often drops the man into choppy waters. Men often become bored with functional workaholic relationships that are seen as devoid of passion, stimulation and intrigue. In relationships the grass is always greener elsewhere. The excitement of a secret rendezvous and sexual adventures with someone different could act as a fulfilling stimulant. However, most affairs go undetected as they never escalate or develop into competing relationships”

The study also examined what men looked for in a new lovers’ personality. The majority responded that they are after a woman who is sexually confident, surprisingly almost twice the number who were looking to meet a partner with the same interests and values as themselves.

Dr Holmes added: “Couples tend to undervalue sex in their relationship and for some it becomes a chore–getting in the way of more important things. Too many marriages are based on convenience, or only being together for the kids. This is not just fertile ground for affairs but almost certainly will result in one if either partner is a passionate person. Couples should take the need for good passionate sex as the focal expression of a relationship more seriously.’

Essex boom in online extra-marital encounters as snow falls

Since last Tuesday over 25% of signups on the extra-marital dating site IllicitEncounters.com have been by those living in Essex, with the majority being women.

The UK’s largest extra-marital dating site, IllicitEncounters.com, first noticed the overall increase in daily signups last Saturday, when the cold weather and snow initially hit Scotland and the pennines, a trend that continued on Sunday when another flurry of memberships were created by people based in Newcastle and Leeds.

However, since the snow has blanketed the entire country the trend has shifted and, instead of the majority of signups coming from the north, the majority of activity has been seen in the east.

The top ten counties that had the most activity were the following:

Somerset – 13%

Kent – 10%

Shropshire – 9%

Durham – 8%

Pembrokeshire – 6%

Nottinghamshire – 5%

Aberdeenshire – 4.5%

A spokesperson for Illicit Encounters, Vanessa Philips, says, “We’re surprised by these statistics as previous figures have shown the south west being the ones most likely to stray when the weather turns for the worse. A couple of years ago it was Devon at the top of this table.”

In the past week the site has seen an increase of over 5,000 signups. In January 2010 a similar pattern emerged with a record number of signups reported. Many new applicants joined from Hampshire, Berkshire, and West Country, with more than 900 new members joining from Dorset, Devon and Cornwall in just three days.

Recent snowfall in the UK has led to hundreds of married people signing up for extra-marital encounters over the past few days, and the upward trend is expected to continue as the weather worsens.

Tracking the number of new members since the change in weather, a spokesperson for Illicit Encounters, Vanessa Philips, says, “We’ve found that there’s a strong correlation between where the snow falls and the increase in signups, suggesting many join the site when they are forced to work from home due to being trapped in by the snow. Perhaps their preference is to sign up away from the prying eyes of colleagues, or maybe they look to join to escape family frustrations.”

Research conducted over the past few years has shown that female infidelity is on the rise – women are now looking for fulfilment outside of their marriage more than ever before.

A recent study by researchers at the Kinsey Institute, Indiana University and the University of Guelph revealed that since the 1990s, women who reported to ever having an affair has risen over 50% from 12% to 19%. Where as men have remained at a stable 23% since the early 90’s.

The survey found that the majority of female philanderers do it “to feel attractive again”. The site, surveyed over 700 of its female members on the reasons they chose to embark on an affair. Over a third of respondents confessed that they joined to find a man who would make them feel sexy and attractive again.

£2.5Billion A Year Spent On Office Affairs

A study commissioned by leading extra-marital affairs website IllicitEncounters.com in conjunction with NotAtWork.co.uk has revealed that office romances are costing British Businesses £2.5 billion a year.

The survey conducted in October 2012, asked business owners and employees to answer questions relating to the effect of Work-based Romances on businesses. It had some startling results, of the individuals questioned 75% admitted to thinking about engaging in an office romance and 54% already had, with a shocking 27% having done it on more than one occasion.

84% of individuals stated that it would affect their productivity within the workplace, costing their companies thousands. In fact in the last 12 months, the average cost to each business surveyed from issues relating to office romances was over £65,000. So the total cost to the UK companies in excess of £2.5 billion.

Mike Taylor, Spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com, said “£2.5 Billion is an insane amount of money for companies to be spending or losing due to office-based romances, whilst most UK businesses don’t have contractual rules against employees fraternising, over 50% of the businesses surveyed acknowledged the financial implications as they would actively recommend using a dating site to find romance rather than having their staff seek it out in the workplace.”

However, some businesses are still failing to recognise the full magnitude of the problem. Although it would seem too drastic an action for many UK employers to introduce a morality clause within an employment contract.
