According to new research by Illicit Encounters, the UK’s top married dating site, lawyers are the safest people to have affairs with, and make better liars than politicians, salesmen and even actors!

2,000 Illicit Encounters members were surveyed about what profession they thought was the safest to have affairs with and out of a list of 40 options, including teachers, bankers, psychics, entrepreneurs and doctors, lawyers came out on top with 27% of the votes.

When this 27% (541 people) were asked ‘Why do you think lawyers are the best profession to have an affair with?’ the top ten reasons were –

  • 2)I think they’re too smart to get caught.
  • 3)If they get caught, they can talk their way out of trouble.
  • 4)They’re good at creating alibies.
  • 5)They’re stressed from their job so they have a lot of tension to release in bed.
  • 6)They’re very good at wining and dining.
  • 7)They’re very good at organising discrete weekends away.
  • 8)They have long working hours, so if I want to meet late at night, they can make a believable excuse to their spouse.
  • 9)They have attention to detail which makes them better in bed.
  • 10) If my partner finds out and leaves me, I have someone to take care of the divorce!

“What’s most shocking about this research is that lawyers are deemed even better liars than politicians!” Claire Page, spokesperson for Illicit Encounters said, “One would think that backbiting, obfuscation, and double-dealing are practically job qualifications for politicians, so for lawyers to be seen as better liars than them, that’s quite an achievement!

“Equally as surprising is that they’re even seen as better liars than actors – people who lie for a living. For some, lawyer stereotypes that they’re untrustworthy, deceitful and dishonest may seem like a negative, but it’s for these exact reasons that lawyers are fantastic affair material!”

English are self-conscious about their Wobbly bits while Scottish Believe they’re Supermodels!

New research released today by Illicit Encounters showed that the English are far more self-conscious than the Scottish. Only 17% of the 2,000 English surveyed put the word ‘athletic’ on their online dating profile, while a staggering 53% of the 1,800 Scottish would describe their build as ‘athletic’.

The research, which was carried out on 3,800 Illicit Encounters members, surveyed the difference between the confidence levels of the Scottish and English.

When the English were asked ‘Why wouldn’t you describe yourself as athletic?’ the top reason was ‘I think I am overweight’, with 34% of the votes, while ‘I don’t like the way I look since I’ve had children’ came in second with 30%, ‘I am not as toned as I used to be’ came in third place with 21%, and ‘I don’t have enough time to work out’ came in fourth with 15% of the votes.

The Scottish who describe themselves as ‘athletic’ were asked what their favourite feature was about themselves. The top three responses were ‘my arms’ (39%), ‘my bum’ (36%), and ‘my abs’ (22%).

“The results of the survey were very interesting,” said Dr. Lucy Redford, “The majority of the Scottish surveyed have described themselves as ‘athletic’ despite the fact that 62.6% of 16-64 year olds are medically overweight or obese in Scotland, costing the NHS over £600 million a year. In comparison, 60% of people in England between the ages of 16 and 64 are overweight or obese. This isn’t a healthy figure either by any means, but it’s interesting that the vast majority of the surveyed Scottish people would call themselves athletic even though the vast majority of people in Scotland are overweight or obese.”

Research found that those who have the word ‘athletic’ in their profiles get an average of 127% more traffic than those who don’t have it on their profile, proving that confidence in itself is incredibly attractive to both men and women.

“Just because someone doesn’t describe themselves as athletic, it doesn’t mean they’re not in good shape,” said Claire Page, spokesperson for Illicit Encounters, “Often, people are too afraid to use the word ‘athletic’ in their profile in case people think they’re built like Arnold Schwarzenegger or as ripped as Jessica Ennis. They’re afraid to cause disappointment when they meet up with their date. It’s a classic case of low self-esteem, which is why so many people look to have affairs in the first place – to seek validation if they’re no longer getting it from their partners. We all have a fundamental need to feel important, wanted and valued by someone else.”

A 2014 study conducted by the UK’s leading extramarital affairs site IllicitEncounters.com has revealed the male professions that women find the sexiest.

The study asked over 2,000 female members of the dating site what they thought the sexiest profession for a potential partner was and why. The top job title to get a ladies attention is entrepreneur; it’s unsurprising that creative, risk taking and intelligent entrepreneurs top the list, with examples such as Dragons’ Den star Peter Jones, Richard Branson (Virgin), Michael Smith (Mind Candy) all being ranked as top female crushes. However, straight-laced bankers and stockbrokers occupied the second place profession with women describing them as ambitious, ruthless and confident.

According to the study, the least attractive professions are professional footballer and politician. Probably not helped by the over exposure of the world cup and recent election campaigning, women viewed them as over-confident, vain, self-absorbed and as having a reputation.

The study also asked the male respondents to anonymously rate what they felt was more important for a relationship: personality or physical appearance. The results showed that a staggering 68% of men said that they found personality as or more important as physical appearance.
