Making someone laugh, being physically attractive and intellectually stimulating are all things we associate with turning someone on but new research by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK and Ireland’s largest married dating site, shows that food can be more arousing than any of these. On a first date, good food is almost twice as important as the date’s sense of humour.

500 members on Illicit Encounters were asked ‘what’s the most important thing on a first date?’ The top five answers were as follows:

  • 1)My food is good (32%)
  • 2)My date has a good sense of humour (20%)
  • 3)I look attractive (18%)
  • 4)My date looks attractive (12%)
  • 5)The conversation is intellectually stimulating (10%)

Dietician Nadine Walters said food is so important because it stimulates more of the senses (taste, smell, sight and hearing) than conversation (hearing) or physical presentation (sight and maybe touch). This is a list of her top ten aphrodisiacs and why they turn you on:

  • 1)Chocolate – “Large quantities of chocolate can lead to a rapid rise in blood sugar and a consequent drop below normal levels resulting in fatigue,” Walters said “But cocoa contains phenyl ethylamine, a stimulant that conjures feel-good emotions that makes you feel like getting close to someone and think sex is a fabulous idea.”
  • 2)Red wine – “We all know that alcohol helps you relax and unwind, but red vino contains resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant which helps blood flow and improves circulation before sex which makes you more sensitive.”
  • 3)Asparagus and avocados – “These super-healthy vegetables contain Vitamin E which helps your body produce hormones like oestrogen, testosterone and progesterone, all which circulate in your bloodstream and stimulate sexual responders like the clitoris and the vagina.”
  • 4)Chilies – “Not only do they boost energy, improve memory and even fight fat, they also contain capsaicin, a chemical which boosts circulation to get blood pumping and stimulates nerve endings, which means you’ll feel turned on. Result!”

Green Saturday: the day you’re most likely to ‘Get Lucky’ is Paddy’s Day weekend!

Green Saturday is coming – the day of the year that you’re most likely to get lucky – and its three days before Saint Patrick’s Day, on the 14th March.

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK and Ireland’s top married dating site, surveyed 500 people and asked them what day of the year they would most likely sleep with someone. The majority of people (68% – 342) said they would sleep with someone the weekend before Paddy’s Day, beating New Year’s Eve, Stephen’s Day and Valentine’s Day.

More than a third of those surveyed (36%) said they would sleep with a stranger or someone they met that night. The majority (289 of 500) said they don’t have a regular sexual partner or don’t have sex regularly. 82% of people said they would be drinking on Saturday the 14th. Those who said they would sleep with someone on Saturday the 14th over Tuesday the 17th said their increased drinking pattern directly impacted on their increased sexual activity, and gave the following reasons for choosing the weekend over the official Saint Patrick’s Day:

  • 1)Sunday can be my day of recovery.
  • 2)I won’t have to call in sick on Wednesday when I’m obviously hung-over.
  • 3)I won’t have to work while hung-over on Wednesday.
  • 4)I won’t be drinking too much on Tuesday because I have work the next day and don’t want to be hung over.
  • 5)I’ll be drunk enough for a one-night-stand because I’ll start drinking early on Saturday.

Alcohol consumption levels are dependent on weather for most, as 59% of people agreed that they would ‘drink less if the weather is bad’. Based on this, people will be drinking more than usual because weather on Saturday is predicted to be clear and sunny (14 Degrees Celsius according to weather.com!).

When asked why they will drink less if the weather is bad the top responses were:

  • 1)I prefer drinking outdoors – riverside, or in a park, or in a beer garden.
  • 2)I can walk from pub to pub without getting a taxi if it’s raining.
  • 3)I like relaxing in the sun when I’m drinking.
  • 4)Drinking outside is more social.
  • 5)I have to drive home if it’s raining, but I can walk if it’s sunny, and drink more.

“It doesn’t surprise me that the top day people will have sex this year is the weekend before Paddy’s Day,” Claire Page, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com said, “Paddy’s Day is the biggest drinking day of the year, and people are sexually liberated when they’re drunk, so of course Green Saturday will see a lot of people getting lucky! People are usually better at sex after a drink or two. It makes them less tense, reduces their inhibitions and because alcohol is a social lubricant, people are less awkward after a glass or two. 1,000 Brits were surveyed about the best places to hit on someone. The survey was carried out by Illicit Encounters, the UK’s top married dating website, to find out the best and most successful places to flirt with a stranger. The survey found the gym is the best, with the vast majority of people (66%) saying they would be flattered, interested and open to a conversation if someone hit on them when they were working out. The second best place to hit on someone is a dog-walking park, followed by the pub. The stereotypical places to meet someone like clubs or the workplace didn’t make it into the top ten list.

The top ten places were:

  • 1) The gym
  • 2) A dog-walking park
  • 3) The pub
  • 4) Online
  • 5) An interest class, like a writing course, hiking club or art class
  • 6) The market/supermarket
  • 7) Church
  • 8) On holidays
  • 9) House parties/dinner parties
  • 10) Museums/art exhibitions

69% of men were likely to respond positively to being hit on at the gym. The top three reasons were 1) Women are attracted to strength which I can demonstrate at the gym 2) I look my best when I’m working out 3) I feel great at the gym

In comparison, 64% of women were likely to respond positively to being hit on at the gym.

The 36% of women who said they wouldn’t respond positively to flirting at the gym said the top three reasons were 1) I look red and sweaty at the gym 2) I’m not wearing make-up at the gym or if I am wearing make-up it slides off with sweat 3) I don’t want any distractions at the gym.

“The top reasons people want or don’t want to be hit on at the gym are mostly vanity-based,” psychologist Lucy Redford said, “People can flirt anywhere, but there are some places that are better to flirt than others. At the gym or a fitness class it’s not like a first date with the pressure of trying to find something in common, you’ve already got fitness in common. Your body releases happy hormones like endorphins when you work out but your brain also releases a protein called BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) which has a proactive and reparative element to your memory neurons and acts as a reset factor. That’s why we often feel at ease and like things seem better after exercising.”

“It makes sense that the best place to hit on someone is the gym,” Claire Page, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com said, “You’re working out, you’re focusing on a positive goal and getting into shape, so someone hitting on you, which is always flattering, is going to be more of a compliment when you’re sweating because it makes you think your exercise regime to look good is working. Dog walking parks are not a huge shocker either. You immediately have things in common, you immediately have things to talk about. Having a dog also says a lot about a person. It shows they’re caring, responsible, affectionate and loyal – all things you usually learn about a person after knowing them for a few days, but knowing it immediately puts you in a better position to speed-track this judgment. People don’t start serious relationships at a club because more often than not, people are too drunk to start anything meaningful, or are with a group of friends who they don’t want to leave to talk to a stranger. Similarly, it can be very intimidating for someone to approach a man or a woman when they’re with a big group of friends. The reason pubs are more popular than clubs is because you can have a better conversation, you’re not shouting over club music. It’s never a good idea to start an office romance because if it turns sour it makes work-life very awkward.”

New research released by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s top married dating site, shows that actors have better sex lives than any other profession, beating models, lawyers, politicians and bankers. Over 2,000 people were surveyed in twenty different job categories and those in ‘acting and performing’ have more sex and more sexual partners than any other profession.

The 100 people in the ‘acting and performing’ industry have on average five sexual partners a year and have sex three times a week, which was 550% more than those in the ‘banking’ industry who have on average one sexual partner a year and have sex once every two weeks; and 400% more than those in the ‘modelling’ industry, who have on average two sexual partners a year and have sex twice a week.

“Talent is extremely attractive,” said Claire Page, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com “People who have the ability to interpret art and express themselves onstage and on camera will naturally draw admiration. Last week, over one billion Valentine’s cards were sent throughout the world, but new research by IllicitEncounters.com reveals that there is a second celebration of love coming up – Pancake Tuesday is the closest national celebration men will spend with their mistresses, because spending Valentine’s Day away from their wives is “too obvious”.

The poll, which surveyed 2,000 IE male members, found that 68% (1361) of men having an affair will spend the week after Valentine’s with their mistresses, and Pancake Tuesday was the top date men said they will spend with their mistresses scooping 72% of the votes.

1,000 of our female members were asked ‘Would you like your husband to surprise you with pancakes in bed on Pancake Tuesday?’ and 98% of them said ‘yes’. Despite this, when the men were asked ‘Will you make a pancake for your wife?’ only 43% said they would.

The 57% who won’t, were asked ‘Why won’t you make a pancake for your wife?’ the top three answers were:

1)She won’t like the way I make it

2)She’s busy getting ready for work in the morning

3)She’ll complain about the mess in the kitchen

When asked if they will buy or bake a pancake for their mistress, the majority of the surveyed said they would (61%) and the most popular flavourings were traditional butter, lemon and sugar; followed by Nutella.

The survey also found that married men spent more on their wives than mistresses –on average, the 2,000 surveyed men spent an average of £147.60 on Valentine’s gifts for their lovers compared to just £120 on their spouse. Mistress gifts were also more likely to be more sensual, like lingerie, champagne or chocolates, compared to practical gifts for their wives, like a phone upgrade or a new purse.

With a record-breaking $82 million in its first day in the box office, new research released by IllicitEncounters.com shows that Fifty Shades has revamped our sex lives from routine to risqué. 438 of the 500 members surveyed said their sex lives had changed since reading the Fifty Shades books and/or watching the film. 62% of people said they pursued an affair since reading the books, because their sex life with their spouse was boring in comparison. 78% of people said they incorporated an element of 50 shades into their sex life or recreated the scenes.

The top three scenes people recreated were:

Teachers are the Recipe for a Happy Marriage!

New research released today by Britain’s largest married dating site, IllicitEncounters.com, shows that teachers are the best ingredient for a happy marriage! When 1,000 IE members across the UK and Ireland were asked ‘What do you do for a career?’ the lowest percentage of them (0.5%) said they were teachers. As well as that, when asked ‘what job would you like the mother/father of your children to have?’ the highest answer was ‘teacher’ (27%), beating ‘CEO’, ‘salesman’, ‘actor’ and ‘engineer’.

The top six professions the 1,000 respondants had were:

  • 1)CEOs or business owners (243 votes)
  • 2)Lawyers (213 votes)
  • 3)Politician/local councillor/senior civil servant (205 votes)
  • 4)Banker (129 votes)
  • 5)Doctor/Surgeon/GP (106 votes)
  • 6)Personal trainer (104 votes)

Five out of the thousand who said they were cheaters said they were principles (2 men and 1 woman), taught maths (1 woman) or drama (1 woman).

So why exactly are teachers 486% more likely to stay faithful than CEOs or business owners?

“There are many reasons why teachers are more likely to commit to a marriage than other professions,” said psychologist Lucy Redford, “Unless they’ve made a horrific career choice, teachers are usually very good with children. In the classroom they can see the effect of arguing or separated parents, and because most teachers are empathetic, they won’t want to create the same turbulence in their own home. They’ll more than likely have the ability to discipline children because it’s their job (both in school and at home). It’s for this reason that teachers have a high respect and commitment to a marriage and won’t risk fracturing it.”

Claire Page, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com said “What I find most interesting about this survey is that people seem to have good instincts, because despite the financial benefits, most people didn’t want the father or mother of their children to be CEOs, and CEOs in this surveys ranked the least faithful profession.”

The top five reasons people said they wanted their children’s other parent to be a teacher were:

  • 2)They’re patient – teaching teaches teachers patience.
  • 3)Teachers have good and predictable hours.
  • 4)Teachers are protectors. They don’t tolerate bullying.
  • 5)They are incredibly influential. Teachers shape futures.

Boom in Mistress Cards as Valentine’s Day Approaches!

E-cards can be sent by email for free from Mistresscards.com or printed versions of the cards cost £2.50 and can be ordered online. Most of the cards are aimed at men although others are aimed at married women to send to their lovers – or Histresses. The decision to launch the range came after a survey found married men spend 23% more on Valentine’s gifts for their mistresses than their wives.

The poll, which surveyed 2,000 IE male members, found married men spent an average of £147.60 on Valentine’s gifts for their lovers compared to just £120 on their spouse. Mistress gifts were also more likely to be more sensual, like lingerie, champagne or chocolates, compared to practical gifts for their wives, like a phone upgrade or a new purse.

The best-selling Mistress card says:

The second best-selling card says:

“What we’re seeing in this product popularity is how much men value their mistresses,” said psychologist Lucy Redford, “Receiving a card for Valentine’s Day can mean a lot to a mistress, someone who is stereotypically seen as the second most important, after the wife. It’s really a small thing that means something huge – that they’re important. It validates them and makes them think they’re on their lover’s mind. Fundamentally, that’s what we all crave – to feel important and validated.”

“We are absolutely delighted with sales figures.” Claire Page, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com said, “We launched the cards Monday morning at 9am and by Tuesday morning, we had sales of over 3,600. There’s 1440 minutes in a day, so that means there are 2.6 sold every minute. ‘Red Tuesday’ is the top dumping day of the year, just four days before Valentine’s Day, according to new research released today by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s top married dating website. 3,000 people were surveyed on Illicit Encounters and one in five – 22% – had broken up with someone the week before Valentine’s Day. Dumping someone electronically is also rising in popularity with most people breaking up with someone over their phone.

The top six ways people chose to dump their partners were:

  • 3)In person (27%)

The period between Christmas and February is always a popular time for people to spring clean their love lives as well as their homes, but there is a sharp increase in people breaking up with their partners four days before Valentine’s Day.

22% of people surveyed had admitted to breaking up with someone the week before Valentine’s Day, with the majority (473 of the 660) saying they made a clean break four days before the festival of love.

“There are many different reasons people make such a drastic decision so close to Valentine’s Day,” said psychologist Lucy Redford, “Some people realise how much they don’t love someone with the romanticism in the air; some buckle under the pressure of committing; others think they can probably do better if they’re not happy and because Valentine’s Day is a national celebration, it’s hard to ignore. For a lot of couples, the 14th February brings them closer together and makes them realise how in love they are. For others, it’s a reminder of the cracks in their relationship. A lot of people cannot bear to be false and celebrate something that doesn’t exist, so they break up beforehand. It might seem quite cruel but it’s very emotionally damaging for a person to be in a relationship that’s not giving them anything positive. Staying when it’s not working can be a lot more toxic in the long run than going your separate ways.”
