Brits Reveal the Final Straw That Drove Them to Cheat – And It’s Not What You’d Expect

The key findings

* 72% of cheaters say they never planned to stray – a single trigger tipped them over the edge

* Top reason? Feeling invisible at home – emotional neglect beats lack of sex

* 1 in 5 started an affair within just two weeks of their relationship’s breaking point

* Study conducted by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s largest extramarital dating site

Silent treatment is driving Brits into the arms of someone else – with nearly three-quarters of cheaters saying a single event tipped them over the edge, according to a racy new poll.

The survey of 1,500 members of IllicitEncounters.com – the UK’s leading affairs site – found 72% of users never planned to cheat, but a single trigger pushed them into an affair.

Top of the list? Feeling invisible at home, with 48% saying emotional neglect was the final straw. One respondent said: “I could have set fire to my hair at the dinner table and my partner wouldn’t have noticed.”

Not far behind were those stuck in a sex rut – 44% admitted they hadn’t had a roll in the hay for months, while 39% said things went cold after the kids flew the nest, leaving them living with a stranger.

33% said their partner forgetting an anniversary pushed them over the edge, 28% caught their partner flirting on social media before deciding enough was enough, and a quarter of respondents said constant passive-aggressive jabs wore them down.

And once they hit that breaking point, 18% admitted they kicked off the affair within just two weeks – no messing about.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com, said: “It’s not always about the steamy affair or wild lust – sometimes, it’s just about wanting to feel seen. When your partner forgets your anniversary or only speaks in sighs and sarcasm, it chips away at how valued you feel.”

She added: “Affairs don’t start with fireworks – they start with silence. And when home life feels like a cold shoulder, it’s no surprise people go looking for warmth elsewhere.”

Flirty Forties – The best time to have sex!

The key findings

* The best time to have sex is in your 40’s, even if you’re having less of it!
* Quality trumps quantity over sexual satisfaction, with only 12% of people voting sex in your 20’s as the best – even though it’s the time people have the most sex
* Study conducted by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people

Life truly does begin in your forties, your sex life at least!

IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people, surveyed 2000 members and found that 41% of people agree that the best time to have sex is in your forties!

Top reasons given for this were, ‘feeling comfortable in your own skin’, ‘knowing exactly what turns me on’ and being ‘open to adventure’ in the bedroom.

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Although the public voted their 40’s to be the best time to have sex, they were not having a lot of it, with only 13% of people stating this decade as the one they had the most sexual liaisons. Clearly quality trumps quantity when it comes to sexual satisfaction.

The next best age is 30 with 28% of the vote. Followed by the frisky 50’s with an honourable 17%.

Sex in your 20s scored shockingly low, with only 12% of respondents agreeing that their 20s were the best age to get busy with it, only 60’s (1.5%)  and over 70’s (0.5%) fared worse.

Twenty year olds hit the peak of their sexual liaisons when it comes to the amount of sex they’re having with a whopping (43%) agreeing that their 20s were when they had the most notches on the bedpost.

500 members in the sample were also asked what makes a good sexual partner and the top five reasons given were ‘confidence’, ‘communication’, ‘foreplay’, ‘experience’ and ‘open mindedness’.

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationship expert at IllicitEncounters.com, said “People are having mind blowing sex in their 40s! Why? They had their peak of promiscuity in their 20s, often succumbing to substandard sex while learning the ropes, quite literally, experimenting in some bondage play perhaps – before concluding that wow, ropes and whips do not excite me.

In their 30s they begin to transition from having lots of sexual partners, to having less, but better quality sex – beginning to understand what sort of pleasures delight them.

Then BAM you’ve hit your 40s! You are fully aware of what tickles your fancy and are at a stage where you have stopped caring about what other people think. You’re more confident in yourself and your body and are unabashed when it comes to communicating about your fantasies and fetishes. This confidence partnered with being wiser about who you choose to be intimate with – guarantees for much more satisfying sex.

Nobody wants to go back to fooling around in their twenties, it’s awkward, insecure and lacks experience.”

What is the best age to have sex?
40s 41%
30s 28%
50s 17%
20s 12%
60s 1.5%

Accountants Voted Best Between the Sheets

The key findings

  • 8 out of 10 women say accountants are best lovers under the covers
  • Founders/entrepreneurs come in close second as most beddable
  • Women find male models and butchers least sexy
  • Results come from survey of 2500 female members by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people

78% of women rank accountants as the number one profession to get hot and steamy under the covers in a recent survey by IllicitEncounters.com

What the numbers show

Top reasons given by women for wanting to bed an accountant is that they are good in bed, great at dirty talk and don’t finish first. The study indicates that accountants make selfless lovers that focus all their attention on their partner.

Founders/entrepreneurs came in close second place as most beddable with 71% of the vote, and actors third with 68%

Shockingly male models came in second to last with only 7% of women agreeing this profession is good in bed.

Butchers scored the least votes with only 2%

Annabelle a member on IllicitEncounters.com said “Accountants are hot, come on! Someone who is that good with numbers clearly has amazing attention to detail. Good things come to those who wait, and great sex is about patience and communication. For women it isn’t just about the physical either, orgasmic pleasure needs a connection of minds.”

Siobhan another member using the site recalls “I did spend the night once with a male model and I can only describe it as awkward. Not only did I feel super insecure, the whole affair was clumsy and lacked chemistry.”

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Relationship expert at IllicitEncounters.com, Jessica Leoni comments “Butchers are not sexy. Not only has everybody and their neighbour gone vegan over recent years, but butchers and sex just evoke Hannibal-esque erotica to me – no thanks!

Male models on the other hand, sexy on paper, kind of intimidating in real life. Models live a jet setting lifestyle which also leaves little time to build a genuine relationship.

Accountants are number one because they are thoughtful lovers who are willing to try new things. Experimentation in bed really keeps the passion alive. Freakiness, dirty talk and not finishing first – what more could you want?

The study shows that women are attracted to men who are not only financially endowed but also time-rich – meaning they pay more attention to their date. It takes a confident man to focus more on our pleasure than their own, and that is damn sexy.”

No Cheating Allowed, Unless you Work in Media

What the numbers show

·         36% decrease in workplace affairs since 2017

·         Those working in media and teachers most likely to cheat on the job

·         Adulterers fear affairs at work lead to unemployment

·         The results come from a survey of 800 married people on IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading website for married people
Spouses can rest assured that if their partner says they’re working late, they probably are.

Out of 800 members surveyed by IllicitEncounters.com only 42% of adulterers have done the dirty with a work colleague compared to 2017, when more than three quarters of adulterers engaged in at least one office fling.

The results revealed that media ranked top workstation for cheating with 26% of affairs happening in this sector, followed shockingly by 19% of love rats working in education.

Out of the 58% that said they’ve never had an office fling; they were asked what their top reasons were.

Top Reasons not to have an Affair at Work:

– Risking my job 23%
– I’m afraid of getting caught out 20%
– I’m afraid of getting a bad reputation 17%
– I’ve not had the opportunity 13%
– Repercussions if it ends badly 10%
– I don’t fancy anyone at work 8%
– I work remotely 7%
– Other 2%

Jude a female member on IllicitEncounters.com said ‘I’ve had an affair with my supervisor at work in a previous job, which turned out catastrophic when it ended. If you’re thinking of having one, I really advise to think twice. It’s awkward working under someone after being intimate with them. Think it’s a secret? You’re wrong. The entire office will get wind of it, especially in my case where I referred to my lover as my work-husband way before we were romantically involved. In the end I had to resign and find a new job. I don’t recommend mixing business with pleasure.’

George a male lawyer on the site said ‘I might have considered pursuing a co-worker in the past, but since being promoted at work I feel like it could be interpreted as an abuse of power. An innocent flirt could be misconstrued and raise alarm bells these days, especially since the #metoo movement – you must be careful to not give off the wrong idea. Office hook-ups are simply not professional, especially in high pressure corporate jobs like law.’

Expert comment from Jessica Leoni

Spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com Jessica Leoni said ‘Of course less of us are participating in an inter-office rendezvous. Not only is it completely scandalous if it gets out, there are so many other factors to consider if things go sour. Is it worth risking your career over a snog with Martin from Accounting? I think not.  With potential dismissals resulting from affairs at work, you could also be putting your job at jeopardy.

These days our work mates don’t tend to transcend so much into our personal lives either. With the exception of certain jobs like media and teaching – we’re more likely to communicate with a co-worker by email then we are face to face. We simply socialise more after we clock off.’

The Cat Is Out Of The Bag: Feline Owners Are More Likely To Cheat

The key findings

  • A recent survey of 1000 female members of IllicitEncounters.com has shown the link between pet ownership and infidelity.
  • 27% of those surveyed are cat owners making them the group that are most likely to cheat.
  • Only 12% of members surveyed have a dog in their home, suggesting they, like their pets, are the most loyal.
  • Surprisingly bird owners made up 16% of those surveyed, a high percentage for such small portion of the population

Could the pet your partner has be an indicator that they are going to cheat on you? A recent survey conducted by IllicitEncounters.com has revealed that cat owners are almost 3 times more likely to cheat than dog owners.

What the numbers show

A little over 1 in 4 people surveyed had at least one feline friend in their household, compared to roughly 1 in 10 having a dog. This is surprising because dogs are known to be the U.K’s most prolific pet, with almost half of the British population having a dog in their home. Comparatively only 25% of the population has a cat in their home.

Beware if your partner keeps a budgie as bird owners also came back with a higher than expected result of 16% despite far fewer households having them as pets.

Christian Grant explains:

“There is an ongoing debate as to whether our cats even like us, they often will go to where the food is best, their loyalty being to their own satisfaction. They also appear to have a general air of detachment about them. It’s interesting to see the behavioural patterns we recognise in pets reflected in their owners, cats are known for being wanderers of the night, and it would appear that their owners are too”

  1. Cat (27%)
  2. Birds (16%)
  3. Other/no pet (16%)
  4. Hamster/Gerbil (15%)
  5. Reptile (14%)
  6. Dog (12%)

New Poll Reveals the Real Reasons Women Cheat

The key findings

  • Results are from a new survey of 2,000 female adulterers by IllicitEncounters.com
  • The majority of women polled are seeking an adventure, with 41% stating that is the sole reason they stray from their marriages.
  • Lack of sex at home ranked second with 34% of respondents claiming they had no physical relationship with their husbands.
  • 19% of the women polled stated that they feel unappreciated at home.
  • 98% of women having an affair do not want to leave their partner.
  • One third of women polled have no physical relationship at home.

Have you ever been curious to know what could lead your lady astray? More women than ever are cheating, or willing to admit that they are cheating. Why the sudden shift in attitude toward infidelity?

What the numbers show

The summer poll of 2,000 women who use IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people has given an insight into some of the key factors and reasons why women cheat.

Is your wife living the same routine day in and day out? You could be complicit in creating the perfect environment to push her into a secret lovers arms. Of the responders almost half (41%) of the women polled were eager to break their routine and have an exciting extramarital adventure.

The curse of bedroom boredom, one in three reported having no physical relationship at home, and long for physical intimacy. This extends beyond just sex, the survey found that typically, women who fell into this category indicated in their profiles a desire for nonsexual physical fulfilment as well, for example cuddling and holding hands.

Doing the dishes once a week isn’t going to cut it anymore, just under a fifth (19%) of women feel unappreciated at home.

Most shocking was the revelation that  98% of the women indicated that they did not wish to leave their partner, with many of them claiming to have otherwise good relationships with their husbands!

Top reasons women cheat – ranked

  1. I want some adventure in my life (41%)
  2. I have no physical relationship at home (34%)
  3. I don’t feel appreciated at home (19%)
  4. I want to leave my partner (2%)
  5. I don’t want a full time relationship (2%)
  6. I was living with a gay husband (1%)
  7. My husband is disabled (1%)

Experienced adulteress Samantha James (56) told us: “After having kids, and making a home, and doing all the things I was supposed to do, I felt stagnant, living as though I was already dead. I needed something that was just for me, new and exciting and that’s what I got from my first affair, and every one after.”

Illicit Encounters spokesperson Christian Grant explains:

“The data we’ve seen from this poll has been very consistent, in today’s age women are feeling more entitled to behaviour that has long been accepted as a male prerogative.”

“ What has been very surprising is how many women say they are still very much in love with their husbands, but their needs in some way or another are not being met in their marriage”

“Affairs are no longer viewed as some seedy transgression, but as a creative act, a protest against what for many women is an oppressive and suffocating institution.”
