All I ask of a date is to actually turn up. What she is wearing is very much coincidental!!

As for what I wear, before I retired, I was in a job that entailed a lot of travelling round the country with a lot of Hotel Hopping so I was unable to carry much in the way of off-duty clothing so the (very) occasional meet was what I term as "rural casual", largely what I am wearing in my profile picture.

Now I am retired and spend a bit of time exploring this beautiful country of ours in my van, I'm still fairly constrained as to what I can carry to wear, though by preference I like a decent tweed jacket with shirt & tie.

I think as long as someone turns up looking clean and presentable that’s fine, I don’t like really heavy makeup or lots of strong perfume.

Only ever had two people I've gone on dates with. I had my suppositions as to why the first never open-mouth smiled, she had lived her 44 years hard!

Tbf, two years of intermittent searching and she still is the most straightforward and 'professional' potential IE I've communicated with.

I'd rather have less than perfect but committed and passionate than undecided but gorgeous.

I like men who wear clothing on trend without being a fashion victim. Like BHH says, anyone who dresses old 'like my Dad' it's an instant turn off. But no jogging bottoms and trainers.

A harsh topic, I feel, as I quite like people with individual tastes and style. However, there's surely no excuse for at least making an effort in terms of appearance, especially on a first date even though it might be just a getting-to-know-you coffee and a chat. Anything less I'd regard as a lack of interest at best, but more likely just disrespectful. In these days of video messaging should it really happen though?
