About Me:
Seaworthy vessel for short or long-term chartering. Always at the shipwrights, so in shipshape, with more prow than bow, broad beams and a deep, thrusting keel. Although a little battered from spending too much time sailing the Inland waterways near rugby, this remains an excellent craft for long, stimulating voyages.
Destinations are available to anywhere the charterer’s imagination wishes to go. Wild oceans, calm seas, even wicked secret tributaries are all possible.
The electrics are in good working order, with a highly intelligent central control unit. However, the CCU does have distinct idiosyncrasies. It tends to set courses by shoreside theatres and inns, and tunes only to shipping forecasts from the likes of Radios 4 and 6, BBCs 2 and 4. Any attempt to switch to overly commercial stations cause a distinct whining across all frequencies. This noise – and many other issues – can be stopped by the application of a lubricant to the circuits; look for such brand names as Landlord, Abbot and Pedigree and all will be well.
This vessel is great fun, behaving impeccably when required, or bucking on wild and abandoned waves, depending on circumstance. Thus, it is best suited to demanding sailors – sailors who may well have proved too much for their previous charters – and who want to explore the darkness and the light across many latitudes. The CCU reacts well to the responses “alright, yes”, “dare me” and “go on then” in terms of both input and output.
Ideal Partner:
Experience is welcome but many leagues from crucial; shyness or confidence behind the wheel is fine. But a powerful urge to handle the craft across exciting expeditions is necessary and so calls for reasonably fit and active sailors. As a guide, at least 30 minutes hard exercise a day will be needed to haul the ropes, slide the sheets and handle the tiller.
The craft responds well to risky and adventurous sailing and is therefore somewhat wasted on charterers who only seek calm uneventful travel. Wayward pirates will find a warm welcome and more than just a tot of rum amidships. However, a certain coyness, even innocence, is absolutely fine; so long as it wears off behind the cabin door. Long journeys that start slowly on a dangerous course, becoming imperceptibly more daring and thrilling, are always the best.
Above all though, this is a kind, discreet and thoughtful unit that makes sailing enjoyable. Similar traits in any charterer would be appreciated.
(Note: Although not expected; should anybody hiring the vessel be sufficiently taken by it to consider outright purchase, then sailing off into the sunset is a remote but beautiful possibility)
