I saw in San Francisco recently a Chinese painting of two women regarding themselves in a mirror - an explicit celebration of vanity as a refinement, which a chap may acknowledge and admire in a woman, but never emulate. For us, even a claim to modesty is self-defeating. So please engage your imagination.

I believe however I may say that I have a certain quality of naturalness, which will give you an immediate sense of relating to the person, not to a persona - but the absence of affectation does not imply that I may never playfully adopt deliberate or pleasing pretences which are patently and intentionally transparent. (there however no fibs in this profile.)

Self-descriptions are more apt to mislead than inform, and it is incident (adopting a colourful description in which the agent was not events but hooch whisy) that opens the window to the soul.

My profile picture alludes to austere and occasional piano lessons which are a celebration of discipline.

My heroes are two gardeners and Socrates. (That statement has been criticised, as Socrates, who is often misunderstood, is a villain to many - so I am considering alternatives. Now at least one charming woman has asked me about the gardeners.)

I find the race question in the profile info distasteful. In the last census, and paying very specific attention to traditional meaning, I described myself accurately as "non -ethnic". But anyone with whom I might get on, would not regard any particular ethnicity (or non-ethnicity) as a requirement.

My Appearance

My hair is potentially as profuse as it was when I was eighteen, and as dark brown, save for a few tinges of grey. Strangers are bemused by the fact of my retirement. In relation to my chronological age (blast the Beatles) please extrapolate...
