Top Ten Cheating Towns and Cities : Welsh Valleys Are Hotbed for Illicit Affairs

An extramarital website has released fascinating figures that identify the UK's Top Ten Cheating Towns and Cities.

Reading, well known as being home to one of the UK's largest music festivals, came first in the list, followed by Manchester, and Welsh coastal city Swansea. Swansea was one of three towns and cities in South Wales featuring in the Top 10 (along with Cardiff and Newport) suggesting that the Welsh Valleys are a hotbed of illicit sexual activity. Somewhat surprisingly, London, often considered the most sexually adventurous city in the UK, only squeezed in at number 10.

The findings were produced by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK's largest extramarital dating agency. Site researchers calculated how adulterous each area was by comparing the number of cheaters in their database from that area to the town/city's official population. Reading currently has 6890 members on the site, representing a colossal 2.93% of the town's inhabitants.

"The entire county of Berkshire, where Reading is County Town, is a serious hotbed of adulterous activity, and has topped our leader boards for years now", says Sara Hartley, site representative from IllicitEncounters.com. "But having three Welsh towns and cities in our table is somewhat unexpected; especially since the Welsh Valleys are usually considered to be very religious. Having said this, it is the residents of those quiet, conservative towns that are more likely to feel the pressure to marry young, as a result of social and religious expectations, and may indulge in extramarital activity as a way of jumping the white picket fence."

"I think if you provide people with something to rebel against, an expectation or a moral obligation, people are far more tempted to break the rules."

IllicitEncounters.com has been running since 2003, and has in excess of 520,000 members.
